"What's wrong, sir?" I abruptly stood up when the bus halted to stop.

Half of the passengers annoyingly groaned in unison.

"Everyone, please, calm down. There's just a slight problem. Let me check it and for the meantime, you can get out of the bus and stretch up. We still have three hours left on the road," the stout driver announced.

"We are supposed to be with our family, man. It's a holiday! You should have checked whatever you're supposed to check before you go for a long travel," the annoyed looking man chided.

Ignoring the complaints from the passengers, the driver pressed a button to unlock the door; then jumped down to check probably the engine.

I let out a sigh. I should be with my mom before sunset. No matter how I hated Halloween, I promised her to come over since it had been like three years? I had my first heartbreak on the night of Halloween at my boyfriend's house. That was supposed to be a blast, instead, he blasted my heart when I witnessed him snogging another girl in his Joker costume. Since then, I left my hometown and didn't come back until supposed to be today.

I had missed calls from my mom upon checking the screen of my phone. I returned the call immediately before she could blow with messages, telling me I broke my promise.

"Lee, are you near already? I can drive to wherever you are right now and pick you up, honey." The excitement in her voice was palpable, and that made my eyes roll.

"Marie, the doctor doesn't allow you to drive anymore, so don't say bull." I laughed softly. She was more of a best friend than a mother since she had me when she was only nineteen.

"I just missed you, baby girl."

"I know, Marie, but we have a slight problem here. The bus just halted and the driver is still checking what's the problem."

"Oh, no. Where are you exactly?"

"Wait, let me ask someone--"

"I guess you sleep the whole trip, didn't you?"

I chuckled. "You know me damn well. Hold on." I covered my phone and asked the mother with a baby sleeping on her lap.

"Marie, we're near the Hallow Side."

"Great!" she enthusiastically replied.

"Great? I will take a flight next time. This is not a pleasing trip, Marie."

"I know, honey, but you'll thank me later. I'll call you back." Mom hung up before I could reply.

I haven't noticed that everyone went outside already, well except the mother on the right row. I stood up and made my way outside the bus. They were murmuring something about complaining to the bus company.

"This will be done before midnight."

"Before midnight!" Everyone yelled in unison, including me.
