THE MONTHS of training was nothing compared to an actual scenario. The wrath of the orange flame swallowed half of the two-story house in less than an hour. I landed on my shoulder trying to save the young boy trapped on the second floor.

I stood up from the bed after the doctor was done securing the blue-white strap sling around my neck.

"You're good to go now. You're a real hero today, Mr. Bentley." The doctor shook my hand, patting my unaffected shoulder.

"Thank you, Doc." I took the prescription of my painkillers that I needed to take three times a day for three days.

I walked out of the emergency area to the hallway at a lazy pace. The hospital seemed so silent that even a medical staff was not around.

That was odd.

Nevertheless, I was glad that I'm still alive but so tired that I badly needed to throw myself into the comfy bed to get a good sleep.

"Mr. Bentley! Mr. Bentley, wait!" A voice of a woman sounded she was catching her breath made me turn my head to my back.

My eyes widened in surprise to see the same woman whose house was burned down earlier. My heart thundered in my chest when she smiled at me timidly. She must be the eldest of Mr. and Mrs. Powers. She looked so tiny to my six foot two inches tall.

"Ms. Powers, how's your family holding up?"

"We'll survive, thank you for asking. We can rebuild the house but not my brother's life. Thank you for saving him tonight." Tears formed on her steel-blue eyes.

"That was part of my job, Ms. Powers. You're welcome. What are you doing here by the way?"

"I didn't get a chance to thank you personally, so I dropped by." She tucked her straight champagne blonde hair behind her ear as the red crept on her cheeks.

"You could've just left a message at the station. You really don't have to come here to thank me." I smiled genuinely.

She smiled back. My heart almost jumped out of my chest. She was beautiful with a small round face enough for me to cup with my big hands while kissing her pink full lips.

"Let me send you to the parking lot, Ms. Powers."

She drove her beat-up Ford, ended up sending me home. I learned that she was taking flower arranging classes online. Her family owned a flower shop near their home. She liked flowers but obsessed with daisies. She hated chocolates but liked coffee. She loved movies but didn't like watching TV series.

"Who doesn't like TV series?"

"I don't have much time to watch TV series and wait every week for the next episode."

"You're kinda impatient, aren't you?" I glanced at her quickly then looked back to the window.

"I am."
