Time had seemed to slow down as the massive tremors shook the ground steadily. Chern looked awed, his eyes goggly, his arms shivering with shock. His mouth was opening, closing, opening, closing as if he was some automated robot. He voice seemed to have had been put on mute, not even the slightest of noise came out. He merely stood, staring. seeing.
The beast that stood before me was ugly. It stood on its hinge legs and let out a terrifying screech. Its pitch black fur gleamed in the dim torchlight of the cave, its massive talon-like claws raking the walls, as if trying to unearth something.
Or someone. Erica.
"Hey Chern! Wake up! We have to help her!" I screamed ontop of my lungs, attempting to overcome to low droning sounds of the tremors. Without effort, the tremors drown my voice out swiftly, leaving me to yell at, well, nobody really. I guess I'll have to do this myself. I unsheathed my blade, and glanced at my reflection on the blighting steel. "Ready?" I said to nobody. A beam ran across my sword, as if it was beaming with agreement. I thin smirk stretched across my grim face. "Let's go then." I bent my knees and held my sword tight. I felt my blade starting to cast a strong green light, pulsing and humming with energy. It is alive. I feel alive. I glanced at the boss infront of me, and shuddered. The Burrower, lvl: 36, health: 2600/3000.It's 4 health bars glowed in the nocturne corridor, one of the health bars wittled to the yellow zone. Not bad, she's able to inflict damage on it...now let's see- my body froze. Her health bar, flashing and blinking above her head.
Red.
4 months ago, when Kayaba Akihiko had walked the players through the tutorial of the game Sword Art Online, he had stated that revival is no longer a supported function. Players have reached a hp of 0 will have their avatars deleted permanently from this world, and cruely, the <<NerveGear>> donned on the <<body>>'s head will emit a strong electromagnetic pulse that will instantly destroy your brain. Therefore most players in the realm, when their hp bars have reached the yellow zone, will retreat, in fear of death. Reckless players have charged into battle whilst having their hp bars diced down to the red zone. You would know what happens next. Death. But now, facing a person who I know gave an entirely new thought. I can't let her die. Hastily, I swiped my left index finger and sent a guild message; REQUESTING HELP, SUPPORT ASAP.
Now, for the fun.
I started sprinting towards the monster, the system <<Cardinal>> executing my passive skill, <<Phase>>. I can't possibly kill it now, not alone. It's level is a bit lower than mine but its armour is high beyond comparison. What can I do? Suddenly, a thought sparked in my mind. I dragged my sword behind me, humming a warm yellow light. I launched myself at the burrower, my blade resonating with energy, drawing a line of blood from its bristled back. The boss released a screeching, ear piercing uproar. I glanced at its health bar, the forth hp bar had waned into red. The bright, emerald green tag ontop of its bald scalp blending into ruby red, indicating a switch of target. Slowly, as if it has all the time in the world, it shifted its feet and spun around. It released a deafening roar, slowly dropping on all fours and bored into the back of my head with its dead, blood red eyes. Its ebony snout seemed to resonate in the darkness. But I'm not going to wait for him.
I held my blade parallel to the ground, and the <<Cardinal>> system started to take over, my blade illuminating a faint gold. It's about time I try this new skill I got. The mole screeched, and held up its massive paw, pulsing a powderful, strong white light. But of course, being so massive, its movements are diminished. I leaped aside as its paw smashed the floor behind me, rubble tossed into the air.
Now is my chance.
I firmly gripped my blade with both hands and drove it into the beast. The beast roared, more of surprised than pain. It's third out of four hp bars dropped dangerously low into the yellow zone. pulled my blade out and shuffled away slowly, keeping my eyes on the mole. It turned around, its eyes flaring and beaming. Suddenly, as if time had slowed to a halt, the beast froze. It's arms frailed and became limp, its legs buckling and giving away, sending the beast crashing down. A confused look clouded its face, and at that exact moment, a yellow symbol appeared next to its hp bar. Within it, a black symbol of a lightning bolt.
