"How far is it?"
"Not very." Keeping my hand over her eyes, I reach back and shut the passenger door of my car. With my other hand on her hip, I urge her to walk forward on the grass.
"If you walk me too far into the woods, I'm going to think you're planning on hiding my body."
"It's a park, not the woods and you're much too pretty to murder."
"So, assuming that there's even a such thing as an 'ugly woman,' she'd deserve to be murdered?" she asks dramatically, with raised brows.
"Oh my god," I sigh, shaking my head.
"I'm just saying," she giggles, half serious.
"Fine. Yes, everyone is beautiful to someone, so no one can be ugly. And no, for the last time, I'm not going to murder you." We continue walking through the grass towards the spot I prepared. I had her wait in the car earlier while I went to set everything up. Thankfully, no one was there already.
"I'm sure that's what Ted Bundy said, too." With my hand still across her face, I feel the attitude through her facial expressions which makes me laugh under my breath.
I trip over the back of her shoe a little, before adjusting my stance around her. She dressed simple but beautiful in some dark jeans, boots, and a black shirt that hangs on only one shoulder. "Jesus, are you high or something. You're paranoid as hell."
"All women are paranoid of the men they're dating at first."
"Men? I didn't know I had competition. I'll have to step my game up." Starting with this.
"Like you're not dating other people," she accuses with a smirk.
"To be perfectly honest, I still am. Nothing very serious, though." The table comes into view, beautifully lit under the sunset.
"You're allowed to date who you want," she states blankly. I try to decipher if there's any underlying jealousy or passive aggressiveness but can't.
"You're allowed to request that I don't, given that I have the same privilege," I offer.
Essi's head tilts down a bit and her hair falls around my arm. "I'm not dating anyone else."
Positioning her in front of one of the chairs, I pull us to a stop, admitting, "I find that hard to believe."
"Can we not talk about this right now?" her voice wavers, sounding almost annoyed. I'm intrigued but I decide not to press her and instead remove my right hand from her face. How's it possible a woman as stunning as her has no dating life? She's probably picky or high maintenance or both. Silently wishing myself good luck, I lean over Essi's shoulder with both of my hands on her hips.
"Open your eyes."
