Twenty - What a Date...

"You're going on a date?!" Ryder shouted over the phone the next morning after the dinner party.

"Yeah, is it that hard to believe?" I asked her while pawing through my closet while I tried to find the right outfit.

"You aren't a big dater, you're more of a flirter - oh, you know I'm right," she said as I began to object.

I huffed and pulled out a black and white striped dress/shirt. It was long sleeved and went slightly past my mid-thigh. It was good enough. "Fine, you have a slight point. But I've gone on dates before." I managed to change without taking the phone from my ear.

"Who are you going with?" she asked.

"Oh, yeah, I was waiting for you to ask that," I laughed. "It's your cousin."

"My cousin... You don't mean-"

"That's exactly who I mean. I gotta go or I'll be late." I hung up just as she started shouting my name. I laughed as I ran my fingers through my straightened hair, grabbed my purse, and then I took off downstairs. Ryder was going to strangle me next time I saw her for hanging up on her with that information. Maybe I should've told her in person to see her reaction.

Cara was on the couch watching TV when I came down. "Hey, Chasey, where're you going?" she asked, running her eyes over my somewhat dress.

"Out to some restaurant. How do I look?" I asked her, spinning so she could get the full view.

"Um... That depends on who you're going to see. If you're heading off to see your grandma, then you might want to change."

I snickered. "I'm going on a date," I whispered, just in case my dad was around somewhere.

"Oh! My baby's going on a date," she said through a grin, sitting on her knees on the couch with her hands clasped together in front of her. "He'll love that dress. Probably. It's a little short."

"I think it's fine." I shrugged.

A knock on the door interrupted our conversation, so I quickly went to open it. Outside was Chace wearing a black T-Shirt and jeans. His hair was messy, but the on-purpose kind of messy.

"What a gentleman, coming to the door like that," I said with a surprised smile.

He grinned back at me and let his eyes wander down at my outfit. "What else was I supposed to do? Honk the horn and wait for you to run out?" he asked. "You look good, by the way."

"Thanks."

Cara audibly got up from the couch and scurried over to the door. "Hi! You're the other Chace, right?" She grabbed my arm and looked up at him.

"Yes, ma'am."

She squealed - yes, in front of him - and did a little jump. "That's adorable. Is it confusing when people call one of you and you can't tell who they meant?"

I scoffed out a laugh. "Not so far. We need to get going, though, Cara. Love you. Bye." I gave her a hug and she kissed me on the cheek before I grabbed Chace's arm and started dragging him outside. I didn't want him to regret coming to the door because of some awkward questions Cara was bound to ask if we stayed any longer.

"Nice to meet you again," he said over his shoulder before shutting the door behind him.

He took my hand off of his arm and used it to pull me into him suddenly. "It's a beautiful day today, isn't it?" he asked me while putting his arm over my shoulder as we walked to his car.

I looked around. The sky was a bright blue, clear of clouds, and the neighborhood smelled like rained on grass. It really was a beautiful day out.

"Yeah it is. Bet you wish you had your camera with you."
