Chapter 2 ~ Confession Night

"Hey, um, (W/N).. I.. I-I... uh.." Longtail mumbled, but then flicked his tail, bounding away. He shot a glance over his shoulder, staring hard into your eyes. He wasn't being hostile, but you couldn't tell why he was acting so strange. His eyes brimmed with affection, but you only saw that for a moment, for he turned his head again, disappearing into the warriors' den. "Watch out for him. He's being a mouse-brained idiot" Mousefur warned, sliding past you. She sniffed a magpie, and took it off the fresh-kill pile. She went over to the warriors' den, and settled down to eat it. You blinked confused. Was she warning me? Or was she hinting at something?  You licked down your ruffled (F/C) chest, and then padded over to Spiderpaw. "Have the elders eaten?" You asked the tom. "Yes, I gave them prey just after sunhigh" Spiderpaw answered, licking his black paw, and drawing it over his muzzle. "Alright. Has Ferncloud ate?" You meowed. "No. I don't think so" He replied. "Could you bring her something, please?" You asked. Spiderpaw nodded, padding over to the fresh-kill pile. He took the squirrel from your earlier hunting patrol, and took it over to the nursery, it's fluffy tail dragging in the dirt. "Thanks!" You called after him. He flicked his tail to let you know he heard. You gaped your mouth into a yawn, and gazed over at the elders' den for a moment. Then you padded over to the warriors' den, nodding to Mousefur as you pasted. You walked inside. Brambleclaw was resting in the center of the den. Longtail was in the left corner, licking his paw. He glanced up, whispering to Ashfur, who was beside him. You flicked your ear in greeting. "Hi, (W/N)" Longtail said. "Hello" You replied. He narrowed his eyes, looking thoughtful. Then he nodded, circling in the moss, and curling up. He rested his tail over his nose. You padded to your nest, which was on the other side of the den from Longtail's, and settled down. You gave yourself a throughout cleaning, acutely aware of Longtail watching you. Then you yawned, and fell asleep. 

*Timespand*

"Hey, (W/N)?" A voice whispered in your ear. You blinked open your eyes. Longtail's green-blue eyes glazed into yours. "(W/N)?" He repeated. "Longtail??" You muttered, pushing yourself into a sitting position. What does he want??  "Yes?"  You asked softly. "Will... Would.. um.. Do you want to go out into the forest on a night hunt?" He asked casually. But you could tell he wanted something more than just to hunt with you. "Um, sure" You answered. You stood up, yawning, and shook your fur. Longtail ran the tip of his tail along your flank, before silently leading you out of the warriors' den. "Come on. I wanted to go to the Great Sycamore tree" He whispered to you. You whisked you tail in reply. "Sure." He led you through the gorse tunnel. He rested his tail over your shoulders, as you walked to the Great Sycamore. Once you were there, you stopped. Longtail turned to you, his gaze seemed serious. "(W/N), I need to tell you how much I-" He began, but cut himself off. He glared at the ground. "What? You did this last time you wanted to tell me something" You mewed. Your heart thumped in your chest. Please let him tell me that he likes me. Please... Please.. "I... I.." He mumbled. "Stop choking on a feather. Longtail, tell me what you need to tell me" You were growing impatient with the tomcat. "I like you!" He blurted out. "A lot.." Your fur rippled with amusement. "It took you long enough to tell me. That is what you were getting at earlier, wasn't it?" You asked. Longtail nodded. "I've liked you for a while now too" You confessed quietly. You felt Longtail's tongue rasp over your ear. Then he pressed his muzzle into your shoulder. "I love you, (W/N). I'm glad you're here" He murmured. "I'm glad you are here too, Longtail" You replied softly, moving away from him. He flicked his tail, padding away for a moment. Then he came back a few seconds later with a mouse clamped in his jaws. Your mind wandered back to the first time you realized you liked him. 

*Flashback*

You gasped at his muscles. And the way he just winked at you. You knew you instantly looked at him in a new way. The vole dangled from his jaws, his eyes brimmed with joy. "Longtail, you arrogant fool" Darkstripe snarled. "Oh, leave him be" Mousefur sighed. "He hasn't done anything wrong." "Yes, he has. He won't pay anymore attention to me" Darkstripe hissed. "Maybe because the way you act when he doesn't listen" You defended him. "Shut up, mouse-brained excuse for a ThunderClan cat" Darkstripe snapped. "What?! You knew Tigerstar's plans, and betrayed the Clan by not telling us what evilness he was plotting!" You shot back. "Enough, the both of you" Mousefur said calmly. "Darkstripe, stop nagging my ears off" Longtail mumbled through his vole. Then he dropped it, smiling at you with his tail held high.

*Flashback ended*

Longtail dropped the mouse at your paws. "Here. I thought you'd be hungry" He offered. "Thank you, Longtail" You purred, dipping you head, taking a bite of the mouse. It's flavor washed your tongue. Hunched over it, you looked up at Longtail. His eyes filled with the understanding affection from earlier. Now everything seemed so perfect. You let out an unexpected purr of delight. "Longtail, you're so sweet" You murmured. He gave your ear a gentle flick with his tail. Then you finished the mouse, and stood up. Longtail led you back home.
