I heard muffled whispers surrounding me. Their voices were barely audible even with my eyes shut tight and my ears craned.
Knowing I was getting nowhere I opened my eyes, taking everything in.
I was sitting in the middle of two people on a plane. The two people were whispering over me, talking about all sorts. Those two people were Dylan and Lori.
I yawned stretching my arms boldly, “What happened?” I asked groggily, sleep was still crusty in my eyes.
“You were knocked out. You need to work on that, really.” Lori said turning towards the window.
“Ahh, Tansy, you’re awake!” Andrew grinned as he walked down and perched on the seats opposite us. He was an old man with a cool way to do things.
“Okay, question two: Why on earth did you knock me out? If it’s something stupid I will . . . I don’t know. But I’ll think of something!”
“It was for good intentions. We have rules and regulations too, you know.” He said forcing a slight smile before brightening up, “Like my jet? It travels at the speed of light! But . . . Malcolm won’t crank it up that high. Something about being nauseous. But I think it would have been cool! Don’t you agree?”
“Uh, I’d rather be still in one piece when I get back, thank you very much.” Abi said with her eyebrows furrowed.
“Speaking of home, which one would that be?” I asked wonderingly.
“We’re going to one of my favourite states of all time, and believe me I know a lot of states!” Andrew said with an anxious gleam in his old grey eyes.
“So which state would that be?” I repeated with my eyebrow raised.
Lori groaned and then chuckled, “The worst state ever. The one and only . . .”
Dylan waited for her pause as if had been planned and as soon as she stopped he said with a grin, “Texas!”
“Yay,” I said stoically.
Just as I thought I was wide awake after being . . . you know . . . unconscious I felt drowsier than ever and my eyelids started to droop faintly.
I wanted to snuggle back down into an arm, whether it be Abi’s or Dylan’s.
Both arms looked easy to rest on, but I didn’t dare, it felt wrong . . . I tried to get comfortable with my head propped against the back rest, but it was no use. I turned my head slightly to the left – towards Lori – but it just hung loosely in the air.
I stared at the blue seat covers and the rows of 4 on each isle.
“Can I move? I can’t rest without leaning on something; I’ll go get a window seat in a different isle.” I said quietly.
I was about to stand up when two strong arms pulled me down and into their shoulder. Dylan.
I could feel him chuckle as he whispered, “I won’t kill you don’t worry.”
“Thanks,” I said so softly I wondered if he had heard me. But he did, I could tell by the way he draped an arm around my shoulders delicately.
Have you ever been asleep-(ish) but you could hear everything around you? You looked like you were sleeping. You sounded as though you were sleeping. And. You were sleeping. Well barely . . .
“Aw, look at sleeping beauty.” She said mimicking what I had done earlier, “Doesn’t she look cute when she sleeps?”
I knew what was coming I just didn’t want it to. I felt her hands come closer to me ready to shake me, or gosh knows what.
