I never thought the world would end. Not like this. That was until I found myself standing with a gun held to another human.
If they were even human at all.
"Jug?"
I turned my head to the beautiful blonde beside me. We sat side-by-side on the couch in my dad's trailer. I was working on my laptop while she laid against my side. "You okay?" She asked, concern written all over her face. I nodded, "Yea, of course. Just thinking.""Is it about the town meeting tonight? Because I was thinking of skipping out," she said with a smile. "Wanna join?" I laughed, "Will your mom be okay with that?" She shrugged, "Probably not. But I can convince her." I smiled at her. "I can miss one meeting. They're always just the usual announcements. Nothing that can't wait. I'm sure I can miss this one."
"I wouldn't be so sure."
We both looked up at my dad as he walked into the living room. Since we lived in a small trailer, sound travels. "Mayor McCoy said this one is mandatory for everyone to be there. Even you guys."
I scoffed, "Why? What's so important?" My dad gave a small shrug and grabbed his jacket, "Not sure. All she said was that it was serious and a public matter. So you're both going to be there."
I gave Betty a look that said, bummer. Then looked down at my laptop. Betty rested her head on my shoulder.
It's been about a year since we solved the murder of Jason Blossom. That his father, Clifford Blossom, had shot him. Betty and I continued to get closer after that, remaining in a relationship. One that I was very happy in. Archie and Veronica's connection only grew from there. Things really settled down after we solved the murder. No one could forget it, but things really started to feel almost normal.
I continued typing. I was now wrapping up my novel about Jason's death. I felt a sense of loss when trying to finish it. I've been so committed to this for so long that I think not working on it is going to be weird for me. But I knew I still had something good: Betty. As sad and tragic all this is, investing his murder is what drew me closer to Betty. That's something I'd never want to take back.
I smiled as I felt the pattern of Betty's breathing. I felt so comforted by her presence. I focused back on my novel and tried another sentence:
So four teens had solved the murder that haunted Riverdale for months. So four teens had solved the murder tha|
I started deleting the sentence. No matter what I tried, nothing seemed to be the right fit for the ending. As funny as it was, I had no idea how to end it. I felt Betty chuckle. I looked over to her, "what?" She smiled at me, "You're so stressed about this." She sat up and grabbed my laptop off my lap, placing it on the coffee table in front of us.
I gave her a sarcastic look and she slowly moved to straddle my lap. I immediately wrapped my arms around her waist and smiled. "Is this a distraction?" I asked, smirking. She giggled and shrugged, "Perhaps." I laughed and then leaned in, connecting our lips. I tightened my grip on her waist and she placed her hands on my cheeks. Things began to get a bit more heated.
