Memories never fade
I looked out the window as we pulled up to the house I used to know and love. All of my childhood memories were in that house. I had hated moving away to England, leaving all of my friends behind, especially Finn. Oh Finn, how I missed him. We used to be best friends, always together, well us and our four other friends. I missed them too, so very much. I had texted them sometimes, mainly Sadie.
"Millie, are you gonna go meet up with your old friends?" My mother asked
"Yeah, I'm really excited to see them again," I said with a smile "It's been five years and I miss them"
My younger sister Ava kicked my chair from the backseat "Millie! Do you still like Finn?"
That earned a small laugh from me "It's been five years, Ava"
My phone buzzed signaling that I had got a text.
Sadie: Hey! We're at the treehouse, come meet us there!
Millie: That old thing is still there?
Sadie: Of course! We'll see you soon
"I'm gonna go meet up with everyone now, I'll see you later"
"Be safe!" My mother shouted as she walked away
"Yeah, I will" I replied.
Next door, I could see Finn's house, I wondered if he still lived there. Our windows were beside each other, we used to talk for hours sitting at our windows. I could sort of see into his room from the sidewalk outside, it looks different then I remembered but anyway, people change a lot in five years.
I snapped out of my thoughts and began walking to the treehouse. This entire town looked different to me, everything felt different. I recognized some of the people I saw, my old babysitter, the librarian, the third-grade teacher we all hated. I smiled slightly at the memories.
I made it to the treehouse, hidden off in the small woods. I could hear voices coming from inside, I tried to find Finn's voice in the jumble of speech. I climbed up the ladder, slightly nervous to see all of my old friends after five years. We had been friends since kindergarten, Finn and I were especially close. I made it to the top of the ladder and stood up on the small porch outside the treehouse. I pushed back the curtain that covers the entrance.
"Millie!!" Sadie excitedly said as I walked through the door.
"Hey!" I replied, hugging her.
"Millsters back!" Noah laughed
"Nice to see you too, Schnipper"
I looked around, I saw Noah, Gaten, Caleb, and Sadie... But no Finn.
I sat down beside Sadie
"How was life in England?" Caleb asked.
"It was nice, I liked it. I had a couple friends but I'm really glad to be back"
"We missed you," Gaten said
"I missed you all too" I smiled "But guys, where's Finn?"
They all looked at each other "Sadie, you were supposed to tell her" Noah whispered
"Yea well, I didn't get around to it" she whispered back
"Didn't get around to what?" I asked, tilting my head to one side.
"Finn doesn't hang out with us anymore" Gaten blurted out
"What? Why?"
"A lot's changed in these last five years," Caleb said
"Finn's an asshole," Sadie said "He's the hottest guy in school and he doesn't talk to anyone"
"I'm sure that's not true" I replied, wondering how hot he was now.
"He's really changed. He stopped hanging out with us when we got into middle school and we haven't really talked since" Noah said
"And we're talking about Finn Wolfhard?"
"The one and only"
"I'm sure you're just exaggerating, He's Finn!"
"He never talks to us. You start school tomorrow, right?"
"Yeah, I do"
"You'll see for yourself. You're gonna be so shocked" Sadie said.
"he's probably the same old Finn we used to know. He couldn't have changed that much"
"He has, trust us, he has"
"Ok, I'll just talk to him tomorrow"
"It's your funeral but ok"
"Y'all wanna get ice cream?" Gaten asked, changing the subject.
"Yea sure," I said, thinking about Finn, wondering how different he could be.
