Seeing Him

I woke up on the morning of the first day at my new high school. I struggled to turn off the alarm that woke me, sitting up in bed. I looked out my window, across in Finn's. He couldn't be that different, right? I took a quick shower before getting dressed in a white t-shirt and blue jeans. I was never the type of girl who spent much time on getting ready, Finn had always liked that about me. I grabbed my bag and ran downstairs.

"Have fun at school, sweetie!" My mother called after me as I opened the front door

"Yea, I will!" and I left.

As I walked down the street, my thoughts kept straying to Finn and seeing him again. It had been five years, we had talked a lot in the beginning but after a while, the texts got less frequent and the hour-long calls ended. Our friendship just... ended.

I missed him, but anyway, I'll see him again today. We could be friends again, or maybe... More than friends. I had always liked him, I thought my feelings had gone away when I was in England but coming back and the idea of seeing him again brought those feelings right back again. The butterflies in my stomach, my racing heart and the big grin on my face.

I arrived at the school, crowds of kids were outside, sitting on the school's front lawn waiting to go inside. I met up with the others who were standing near the parking lot, looking at something.

"What are you looking at?" I asked, standing beside Sadie

"Finn"

I looked around and didn't see anyone that looks like the Finn I remembered.

"I don't see him"

Sadie sighed and pointed to someone "That's Finn"

I looked at him, my eyes widening a little.

He's leaned against a car, a lit cigarette between his lips. He looked different, really different. His hair, a mess of black curls, freckles scattered across his nose and perfect cheekbones. He took a drag of the cigarette before taking it out from between his lips. He looked over at me. We made brief eye contact before he looked back towards the school building again.

"That's Finn?" I said, a shocked expression on my face

"Yup. I told you he's different" Sadie replied, her arms crossed over her chest

"I-I didn't think he'd be that different"

"Yup, he's really changed. He's hot and smart and he's a rude asshole"

"Well he's definitely hot," I blurted. Shit, I shouldn't have said that.

Sadie laughs a little "Yea, but don't think you have a chance with him. He doesn't date. I'm pretty sure half the people at school think he's gay"

"The other half think he's a vampire," Noah piped up

"Finn's not gay or a vampire," I said, laughing slightly. Shit, shouldn't have said that either.

"How do you know?" Caleb asked, putting his arm around Sadie's shoulders

"Because... He's just not" I thought back to the day I left for England at the treehouse with Finn, the memory caused me to smile

The bell rings, giving me a way to escape from this conversation

"I'll see you guys later," I had said before beginning to walk away from them.

"Where are you going? We're in the same grade" Noah said

"The principal put me some grade 12 classes because I was ahead of my class in England"

"Damn, you're smart" Gaten laughed

"Yeah, I guess. Anyway, I'll see you all later" she said with a smile before walking off

I finally found my classroom after about 15 minutes of looking. God, I didn't want to be late on my first day. I timidly stepped into the room to see that the one and only Finn Wolfhard was in my class. Suddenly the butterflies in my stomach were back

The teacher looked over at me "We have a new student with us today!" She said, her name was on the board, it read 'Ms. Dyer' "Please introduce yourself to the class!"

"Ok, my name's Millie Brown, I'm 15" I fidgetted awkwardly with my sleeve

Finn clapped slowly from the back of the classroom "Princess has returned from England to grace us with her presence once again"

I looked over at him as he smirked

Ms. Dyer sighed "There's an open seat in front of Mr. Wolfhard, you can take that one," She said to me.

I nodded and quickly moved to the back of the classroom, where Finn was and sat down in the seat in front of him.
I glanced back at Finn before looking back at Ms. Dyer.
Suddenly, I felt Finn lean forward and whisper in my ear "Welcome home, Princess. We've missed you"

I kept staring straight ahead, unsure of what to say. Was this flirting? Was he flirting with me? God, he made me nervous. How did he do this to me? I hadn't seen him in five years, I shouldn't be feeling this way. I thought my feelings had gone away but I guess not. Shit, I'm done for.

Ms. Dyer began to speak about something, but I was paying attention, as much as I probably should be. Finn was different, they were right. I don't know yet if it was a good different or a bad different.
