It's a cool Spring day when the moving truck arrives. Charlie is walking out the door with the last of her bags. She turns around to look at the old house she's leaving behind. This is it. Saying good bye to everything she knows. Her house that's she's grown up in was now standing dully. The bright spring colors around it didn't fit with its somber black and grey structure. She sees the sadness she's kept alive so long in that house pouring out of the cracks and windows. Every aspect about this home reeks of depression. The once happy memories inside were clouded over with the painful memories.
The loss of her family was the end of her. Charlie spent months grieving, feeling lost. She was losing herself in the sadness. She duh herself farther into the darkness hiding behind the house she always shared with her loved ones. As if staying behind these four walls would bring her family back. Only to pull her farther into hopelessness. Friends tried everything to get her back to the way she was. Before losing everything, she had a job, a fiancé, a life, happiness. But she knew she had to heal in her own time.
After months of pushing everyone away, her good friend Lois Lane reached out to her. Offering her a job position at the Daily Planet. Begging her to come and that this was the change she needed. Reluctantly, Charlie agreed. She began the painful process of packing up her life and moving hundreds of miles away from everything she has ever known. But she knew deep down that this is what she had to do. This is what her family would have wanted.
Snapping back to reality, she lets go. She embraces the thought of what has shaped her to who she is now. Letting out a deep sigh, she turns away from the solemn house and grabs her bags to starts loading up the moving truck. She can't help but feel that turning away from the house means turning away from her past. From who she was.
She hesitantly gets in the car. Lingering in the driveway she stares at the front windows will looking in the rear view mirror. She knows that if she never looks away, she will never leave. The place that has kept her hidden and safe from anymore tragedies that could happen was now a new past. She looks away and takes another deep breathe and finally finds the nerve to drive away. She doesn't look back this time. It's time to start a new chapter. It's time to leave the past behind. And for once in a long time, she feels hopeful.
Following behind the moving truck, she drives with the windows rolled down. The crisp spring air flowing through her long, brown, wavy hair. Feeling a sense of relief, driving past the familiar streets she knew her whole life. Looking at the familiar neighborhoods as she passes she realizes she gets to start over and create new familiarities. The day she feared the most wasnt so terrible after all. She realizes it's ok to be happy again. An excited feeling jitters up her spine and she feels a smile creep across her face.
After hours of driving, Charlie finally makes it to her new apartment in Metroplis. An old Victorian apartment with beautiful tangles of flowers going up the building. Relief rolls down her shoulders her as if she was holding her breathe the whole ride. She thinks, "maybe, I'm finally home," as she finally unloads and unpacks all of her belongings. She can start a new career and maybe get a.. cat? She shakes her head and laughs at herself. One day a time, she reassures herself.
After all of her moving and preparing for the next day, Charlie falls asleep on her big, light blue couch with all of the lights on and it's the first restful sleep she's had since she lost everyone she loved.
