My purse!!!!
"Clark! How? When? You're amazing!!" I hold my purse up and hug it. "You have just saved me from such a hassle." He's proud of himself and it's written all over his face.
"When I left for my suit in the coffee shop, I must've grabbed your purse with my jacket." He says nonchalant. "Wow, my hero." I feed into his ego. I step on my tip toes and place my hand on his chest to stable myself. I leave him with a soft, small kiss on his cheek and pull away smiling.
"Are you ready for our day?" He holds out his arm for us to lock arms. "If it's on the ground, then yes." I place my arm in his and smile up to him.
He takes me all over the city. We see museums and the lake. The parks and the gardens. Everything he shows me is like seeing through a new set of eyes. He makes the world seem so beautiful and precious. Everything has gone from black and white to full color.
The day is over before I know it. My face hurts from all the laughing. I can't remember when I've been this happy with anyone. Even my fiancée never made me feel this way..
I shake the thought of my past as we walk to my apartment. He takes my hand and our arms swing with the rhythm of our legs.
"Clark, what are your parents like." I ask out of the blue, our hands still interlocked. He looks down to me with a half smile. "My mother is lovely, Martha. She's a strong woman. She taught me how to handle my strength. But so did my father, Jonathon. Well, my adopted parents. I never got to know my real ones.." I think of how he must feel. To be placed on this earth without know why or who you are or where you've come from. "I'm sorry." I squeeze his hand a little tighter. "There's morning to be sorry for. The people who found me are or were the best parents I ever could've asked for." I love when he smiles. His teeth perfectly white but just a little crooked. It fits him. "Wait, were?" I asked snapping back to our conversation. "My Dad died years ago. Before I became Superman. He always thought the world wouldn't be able to handle me..." his words fade and his head falls. I let the silence sit between us for a bit and I pull his arm around my shoulders. "He would be so proud of you." I look up without letting go of his arm around me. "I think he would've liked you, Charlotte." He gives me a soft smile and holds me under his arm still. He tightens his arms to pull me close and kiss my forehead as we continue to walk. I close my eyes and let his kiss sink into me, trusting him to guide me as we walk.
We got to spend a whole day together without him having to be Superman. I was somewhat concerned. I hope he didn't ignore anything at my expense. Superman is apart of him and I wouldn't want him to give a big part of his life for me.
He follows me back to my apartment and we enjoy the silence between us. After laughing all day, some quiet felt nice. It was peaceful and comforting. Sharing the same quiet together.
I begin to open the door to the building when something grabs my arm from the darkness. I'm whipped around to face Clark and panic washes over me. I thought the strong pull was Clark messing with me but when I see his face turning with anger I know something is wrong.
I guess I spoke too soon when I said we had a whole day of no Superman.
"Let her go." He demands while standing his ground. "Oh but Clarky poo, that's not what I'm going to do!" A hideous voice is right in my ear. "I'm just trying to have some fun!" The voice laughs in my ear and then he dramatically smells my neck to piss off Clark. I try to pull away but I can't break free. "Come on, KAL, let's see who you really are!" The anger in Clark's eyes is spilling all over his body. His hands are clenching into fists and I see his jaw getting tight.
"Joker, let her go!" His voice is showing that he's losing control. My eyes tighten. "Here's the thing," joker begins. "I know about you and I know who you love." He's pulling me down the stairs and past Clark now. I flash pleading eyes at Clark. Please save me, I think. I knew today was too good to be true.
