I finished applying my winged eyeliner and double checked myself in the mirror:

My dark brown hair was up in a messy ponytail and my clothes were all dark. As usual. My black skinny jeans had a rip in one knee and my long sleeved plain black top was slightly washed out. I had wanted to wear my Nivarna top over it, but I thought wearing another bands’ merchandise to an album signing was a bit wrong.

I hadn’t of been going if it weren’t for Indi, she had mastered the ‘puppy dog eyes’ technique.

She was picking me up in ten minutes to drive me to HMV in the city, where the signing was taking place. I don’t even have the album they band is supposed to be signing... It’s Indi’s favourite I think. I’ve never heard of them until a week ago when she asked me to go.

5 minutes of spring was it? I don’t really know.

I went downstairs and heard the noise of Indi’s car turn into my driveway followed by the car horn. She never beeps the horn, only when she’s annoyed or excited. “Great,” I thought to myself whilst slipping on my black patent Dr. Martens. It’s too early in the morning to listen to Indi rambling on about sharing oxygen with her idols.

After a not awkward but pleasantly silent car journey into the city, we arrived at HMV. There were only a couple of girls outside, probably about six or seven. The car screeched to a halt.

“Look Isla!!! There’s no one here!!” India shrieked with excitement.

“Oh yeah. What time do they get here again?” I asked trying to sound interested.

 “Eleven.”

I checked my phone for the time and it read 10:17. Just enough time for a Mcdonalds breakfast.

“Indi, you go get inline. I’m going to get a Mcdonalds.” I was about to ask if she wanted anything, but then I remember she’s a cheerleader.

“Ugh, fine but get it to take out. I don’t wanna be alone too long.”

I smiled and turned on my heel in the direction of Mcdonalds. It was only round the corner but I put my headphones in anyway. I pressed shuffle on my Arctic Monkeys album and plodded along the street to the perfect sound of Alex Turners voice.

I bought a sausage and egg mcmuffin, a hash brown and a bottle of fresh orange juice. When I arrived back at HMV it was quarter to eleven, (I may or may not have taken the long way round) upon my arrival I noticed more fans had came. There were now probably about twelve people?

Does anyone actually like this band?

I am quite tall so it was easy for me to look over heads. About three people were in front of Indi, who was waving frantically at me with a slight annoyed expression painted on her face.

After repeating the words “excuse me” at least thirty times, I finally reached Indi.

“Where have you been?!” she cried, with an annoyed tone to her voice.

“There was a big queue!” I lied.

“Whatever, you’re here now” Indi muttered.

Almost instantly a man stood on a chair, with a microphone at his lips he screamed “WHO’S READY TO MEET FIVE SECONDS ON SUMMERRRRRR!” the ‘R’ at the end seemed to go on for an eternity. By saying this, the man on the chair caused the fans (including Indi) to erupt. Screams filled my ears causing them to ring.

Looks like I got the name wrong...

Four boys came in from a back door and sat at a long table which had a white table cloth.

“Oh, I almost forgot, I bought you their album while you were gone so you’re a little less awkward when we get up there,” Indi said, handing me a disc.

After about fifteen minutes it was our turn. My social anxiety kicked in and I started to shake. Indi however was fine, the happiest I’ve ever seen her in fact. She ran up to the table while I sort of strolled.

“Hi! I’m Indi!” she chirped to the boys. It was time like this were my jealously for Indi hits me hard. How can someone be so calm talking to famous people???

“Oh and this is my friend Isla!” All four of them turned to look at me. I half smiled and waved.

The boy closest to me has a lip ring and blond hair, kind of cute, I guess.

“Do you want me to sign that?” he said, pointing to my CD. My cheeks turned a shade of pink from feeling like a complete idiot.

“Um, yeah, please” I muttered handing him the disc. He passed it along to the next boy who has longer hair than the others and looked like more punk. His lips were very red and they stuck out like a sore thumb. He was also cute.

After signing my album, he passed it to the next boy. I took a step forward as if I were following the CD. This boy looked slightly older and was wearing a bandana. Yet again, he was pretty cute. He smiled and made small talk which caused to me blush once more.

After a few minutes this boy passed my CD to the final one. I was staring at my feet because I was embarrassed. But when I saw the exchanging of my disc out of the corner of my eye, it caused my head to bolt upright.

I looked up and saw a beautifully tanned Kiwi boy with dark hair. He was wearing a vest, and I couldn’t help but notice his huge biceps. God, this boy was hot. I thought the other three were cute but he is incredible. I must have been staring for at least two minutes because he spoke.

“Um, excuse me?” his strong Australian accent hit me hard, almost causing me to faint.

“Oh, er, sorry” my cheeks were now boiling and I could every pair of eyes in the room latch themselves onto me.

 The boy giggled slightly.

 “What’s your name then?”

“Isla.” I smiled slightly and looked him in the eyes to find him already looking in mine. He grinned a toothy smile.

“I’m Calum, but I suppose you already knew that.” He claimed, and somehow made it not sound big-headed by the tone in his voice.

 “Yeah sure,” I lied.

A large security man then told me my time was up. I then thanked the boys and Calum handed me my disk. When I leaned forward my sleeve rolled up slightly, making some of my scars visible. Immediately I pulled it down with my left hand. But I am almost certain Calum saw.

I looked up to see Indi beckoning me to hurry up, so I did.

I stared at my shoes replaying past events in my head, did he really see?

I looked at my feet until I reached the exit, where I turned my head to look at Calum once more, who was already staring at me...
