JONAH'S P.O.V.
When I land on the ground, I land on my arm, which results in a snap, and then, a wave of pain. I cry out, but it is drowned by the heavy rain, which continues to beat down.
My vision doubles as I roll onto my back and stare up into the starless night. I close my eyes, letting the rain wash away the mud from my face. I don't mean to fall asleep, but I'm just so tired. So, so. . . tired.
Consciousness doesn't find me again until I feel something tugging at my leg, dragging me across the ground.
"W-What?" I manage to stutter out. Pain is burning in my arm, the person dragging me unaware what has happened to it.
"Stop, my arm," I mumble, but the person doesn't answer. It doesn't register that I have no idea who this person is. I don't care because all I want to do is sleep.
I smell smoke. Why do I smell smoke?
I open my eyes slightly and can just about make out black clouds floating through the night sky.
"Where's the f-fire?" I yawn.
The person speaks for the first time. "The house. The house is on fire. Oh, why did you have to crash? Why did you make this harder for me? I need to put you somewhere safe and then go check on the house before it's too late. I need that house. That's my monsters house. It needs a house."
The feminine voice is so familiar but in my state, I can't place it.
I fall in and out of consciousness for the next few minutes as I am dragged along. The pain has become so bad, it has numbed, and it doesn't bother me any more.
Finally, I come to a stop, and I feel something against my lips.
"Here, drink this," the voice says.
I open my mouth and feel warm liquid pour into it.
Hot chocolate.
Julie.
"Julie?" I cough. "Why are you here?"
I open my eyes to try and see her, but everything is just so blurry.
"No time to explain, Jonah." Julie replies. "Just know that I put some blood into your hot chocolate to keep the monsters away from you. I've been putting blood into your drinks for a long time, now. I always want to keep you safe."
Her shocking words don't even cause any reaction in me. Is that why I almost had iron poisoning? I don't care. I'm so tired.
When I finally open my eyes again, Julie is gone, and I am outside a cabin that is hidden behind a bunch of trees.
"I'm coming, Nic," I say out loud.
I somehow manage to pull myself onto my good arm and knees and begin to make my way towards the door. It opens easily as I push it, but that's when I lose my balance and fall through. I tumble down a set of steps, landing in a heap at the bottom. Miraculously, I'm still conscious, but I have mangled my arm even worse than before. It's so bad, there's no feeling left in it.
"I'm coming, Nic, I swear," I whisper before my eyes start closing again. ""I just need to sleep for a while."
NYX'S P.O.V.
I've picked the wrong door.
I have been walking for what feels like hours now, and no matter how much I walk, there is no end.
I turn off my phone, making sure that I still have some battery left, meaning that I now have to walk in complete darkness. Not that I mind it.
