"So, Kristie Clockwork, eh?" Garret stared into the tv as we talked. We were in his private van, waiting until it was time for him to go. I didn't know where I was going to stay... but being alone with him was the perfect opportunity to either strike, or make a false friendship. "Where are you from?" he asked me curiously.
FarmDale. "FarmDale."
"Cool. Where's that?"
Kentucky. "Kentucky."
"I've never heard of such a place... Hmm... is it nice there?"
It rains a lot. "Oh, not really. It rains a lot there. Lots and lots of—" Stop it.
"Of?"
"It's a good place once you get used to it." I told him.
"Would you like a soda? Maybe, some chips? Chocolates?" Garret sat up a bit.
"Soda, chips, and chocolate?" I was confused.
"I have cheese, too." he suggested.
"You don't eat very fancy." I told him.
Garret seemed to think for a moment. "Ya know, ha... my career... it's not... it's... well..."
"It's not what?"
"It's—"
"Garret!" a man from outside called. "Wrap it up with your girlfriend! We've got to get on the road!"
"She's not my girlfriend, Robbie! Just a friend!"
"Yeah, yeah! Just get her out so we can go, if you're not taking her along!"
"Listen, uh, Kristie... This van is really big, ya know? I've got a kitchen, a tv room, a bedroom, and a gaming system. Would you like to stay?"
"Stay with you? You mean, go along with you?"
"Yeah... if... you have no place to stay. There is plenty of room for the both of us. The driver just minds his own business, ya know? I don't take any other girls on this bus. I never have... but, I find you... special."
"Special?" I raised my eyebrows. He thinks I'm special? Not for long.
"Yes." Garret stared into my eyes. "So... will you stay?"
Well... "Well..."
"We can go everywhere and anywhere together. Just tell me where, and I'll make it happen, Kristie!" he beamed. "Then, we can go to my house! We can be... roommates!"
Sounds wonderful! "Sounds wonderful!"
"Great! Haha!" Garret blushed. "Do you have any clothes?"
I left them at home. "Oh, I, uh... left them at home... in Kentucky. I was just... visiting here."
"With who?" he asked me.
By myself. "Oh, uh..."
"You say 'uh' a lot." Garret laughed. "I'll buy you some clothes. How 'bout it?"
I'm shocked. Shouldn't he be acting like he's all that? With his fame and fortune? With his dumb autographs... and his brands... and his perfect life? What was he going to tell me? Maybe... there's more to him. "Th... Thank you, Dobbinson."
"NP, Clockwork." Garret smiled.
"What does that mean?" I questioned.
"NP? Oh. It means: no problem." he ran his fingers through his hair. He opened the window to the side entering of the van. "Robbie!" Garret called.
"Yeah?"
"No need to take her home. She's coming with us!" Garret was obviously excited.
"Got it!" Robbie replied. "I'm getting in the front!"
"Why is he so loud?" I asked Garret in a whisper.
"That's just his tone of voice." he told me.
"Oh. Okay." I nodded.
I heard Robbie make sure that the door was locked shut. Since it was, I heard the van start, and the driver door slam shut. The van began with a start, but continued to go along. I looked outside to see that we were riding off of the grass, and onto the highway.
"You're gonna love this, Kristie!" Garret beamed. "I'm usually alone up here..." he looked away.
"Why?" I asked him.
"I don't really let anyone in."
"Oh." Press! "That must be lonely."
"It is... But, now, I have you!" Garret beamed once more.
I couldn't help, but to smile. Other guys were nasty... sinners... but, this boy...
"How old are you?" Garret asked me.
Let's see... Uhm... In human years, you're 18.
"18." I told him.
"Where did you graduate?"
"I was homeschooled." I said sadly.
"Did you have friends?"
"No." I shook my head. Yet, at the same time, that was true. I had no friends.
"I don't really have friends, either; if that helps."
"What about your fans?"
Suddenly, Garret got quiet. He sighed.
I'm definitely missing some pieces here...
