Carter hadn't heard from Nicky all day. She woke up with an unbelievable headache, her wrist was burning, and she just felt like shit for what she put Nicky through.
She only meant to help but it seemed without realizing it she made matters worst.
It been like that all day, she was at work and she'd been braiding her clients hair all morning and she knew it was taking her so long because of her stupid wrist. It had been hurting like crazy and was still bleeding.
She was wearing a silk elbow high glove to hide it but it didn't stop the pain from shoot up her arm.
"Look lady, I have a date at 3:00, I love your work but it's taking too long,"
Carter blushed and apologized.
"Marie Anne, would you mind taking over?"
Marie looked at Carter with a worried look, "what's wrong girl? You've been acting like someone pissed in your cornflakes all day,"
Carter huffed, "I've had a rough week,"
"Trouble in paradise?"
Carter nodded in sadness, " I fucked up with Nicky, he told me not follow him and I just wanted to help but instead I fucked with his mind. I think whenever he sees me he thinks of me almost dying. As much as he loves me, I don't think he can handle that."
Marie Anne pouted her red lips, "how's about you take an early lunch to clear your head, I'll take care of your client and you'll still get your commission."
"Nah, take it, it's not like I need it," Carter shrugged waving her friend off as she rushed out the salon without much protest.
"Don't stress it too much, a couple of girls came in saying Nicky was spotted going inside the strip club in town, I say if you aren't on his mind, he shouldn't be in yours."
Carter sucked in a breath trying not to show Marie Anne how much that hurt her. It wasn't like she couldn't go get Nicky from the club, it was a whites only establishment. Maybe that's why he went there, so she couldn't talk to him.
She made her way home not knowing where else to go.
She decided she needed to take a day just for introspection. She took the first book she could and changed into her swim wear so she could go for a swim by the lake. One of the reasons she chose to live so isolated was that none of the pale faces could kick her out of the public pool or bother her. It was sad that the only place she could be herself to the fullest infront of others was with Nicky. And he didn't even want to look at her right now.
She sighed putting her feet in the warm water reading her book. She didn't realize her book was a Captain America graphic novel and of course the first fifty pages were about Steve Rogers and another character named Nick. Nick... how annoying.
She decided to change her book but of course the authors name was Nicholas.
She threw her book on the floor and decided to take her walkmen outside instead.
She laid on the soft and freshly cut grass looking at the sunflowers that surrounded her. She listened to whatever song was playing and felt the water rush between her toes. An hour or so later she fell asleep with Nicky's face burned into her mind.

Curly passed Nicky his burger and watched as his friend munched on it completely starved. He hadn't eaten since, well, he couldn't remember, which wasn't a good sign.
"So.. she snuck out huh?"
"Nah-uh, I don't wanna talk about her. We just need some time apart is all. We're fine."
