Chapter 4 - Fried Chicken Disaster

Chapter 4

"Andy hasn't changed," thought Romy as he walked towards her, with dark brown hair almost black eyes with his arms out for a quick hug. Sidestepping out of it Romy asked, "Why are you here? Does Emily know?" Andy dropped his arms indicating to Lilly with his head. "I have to look after this little one." She looked down to the little figure still in slightly shaking in her arms.

"Lilly?" Romy asked curiously, "What's happening?" Andy nudged Romy towards the line forming across the room.

"You better worry about that first before you stick your head into these problems." His brown eyes scanned across the room quickly before landing on Lilly. He prised Lilly from Romy's waist and lifted her up onto his shoulders. A nod in Romy's direction and a smile and both of them disappeared in the crowd.

Wedging her way between girl 20 and girl 22 she looked nervously around. The group of mean girls were at the front of the line proudly holding up cards 1 to 10. After 3 minutes the speaker crackled to life, "Skkkkkssss...Please stay in line as I will explain how this audition is to go. One by one in order you will stand on the stage in front of the judges and explain your talent and why you want to become a model for this agency. We will start in 2 minutes, please think about all this before you step onto the stage. The judges will then chose 10 to go into the next round. Thank you for listening and good luck."

The sharp click of the microphone being set down sent shivers down her spine. Romy's palms became sweaty as she thought about what her talent was. "Was it dancing?" She has been taking dance for 5 years but quit recently because dancing didn't appeal to her. Soft music had started playing as she thought of any talents that she would show until she heard it. The beautiful strings of the harp played in a beautiful melody as it softened the stress and anxiety that had built up inside her for the past few seconds.

"Number 1 please proceed toward the stage."

An ombreyed head popped up, a brunette to a blonde. She looked like the leader of the group that had bullied Lilly. With a ton of makeup and clothes that barely covered any skin plus the ultra-high heels, there was no doubt. As the girl stepped up the steps she looked around the room, her eyes catching Romy's. Slowly she lifted her hand to her forehead and made the L sign. A burst of laughter erupted the room all of it directed at Romy. Romy ducked behind Girl 20 as another voice shouted across the room,

"Really? The L sign? What are you six? Another round of laughter passed through the line as Number One flipped her hair with her perfectly manicured hand and started the first round.

"I enjoy singing, and was hired for Melody's Modelling Academy to model for them." The Judges nodded as a backup track started. And she started singing...Like a crow.

"ANDDDD I WILLL ALWAYSSSS LOVE YOUUUUU!!!"

She screeched into the microphone. The Judges winced as the line of contestants started covering their ears, even her followers. The 'singer' had her eyes closed as she screamed her lyrics into the microphone. The music had cut off as the judges started talking to each other as the girl flashed them a thousand watt smile as she headed off the stage.

"Nailed it." She smirked at Romy, "looks like I won the competition already." The Judges finished discussing and the contestants streamed through, number 20 was up on stage and Romy was nervous thinking of disasters that could happen.

"What if I will be like Number 1?"

She shivered, "Na, my singing will probably be worse."

"Number 21."

Romy gulped as she slowly walked to the stage, her palms sweating as she took the first step. At the back if she squinted she could see the outline of Emily frantically waving at her. Hiding her smile she felt a tad bit better. "My name is Romy, Number 21 today I will be..." She took a break and squeezed her eyes closed, "Singing a song for you."
