Jack and I sat on the hospital bed this morning, with him asleep and me watching the t.v. "Good morning" I heard him beside me. "Morning" I replied and he gave me a kiss on the cheek. "I love you" he said for the billionth time, but I always loved hearing it.
The doctor came in and checked on both of us then left. "S-sam" I heard Jack almost whisper. I looked at him and he didn't look well. "Jack?" I asked worried and got up as fast as I could. "Doctor!" I called out and stood by Jacks side. He was breathing in and out really fast and shaking. Tears fell from our eyes and I held his hands in mine.
"Sam" he said and shut his eyes tight. "Jack don't go. Please" I said and cried. "Sam" he said my name and smiled opening his eyes again. "Doctor!" I yelled as loud as I could, but I didn't want to leave his side. "Samantha" Jack said and I started at him.
His breathing was now shallow and he was talking quietly. "I love you Samantha. Every day that I've spent with you has been the best one." He stopped to take a breath. "Your the only one for me, please never forget me. I love you" he coughed and smiled. "I love you too, honey" i cried.
He took a breath and his heart beat was slow. Really slow. "Ready?" He asked me shakly. A few more tears fell down my wrinkled face and i shook my head. "No" I said for the first time ever. "You have to be" he closed his eyes. I looked at his chest and it didn't look like he was breathing.
"Doctor!" I yelled and I heard a long beep. A doctor and a few nurses finally walked in. I laid my head on Seán's chest, the love of my life. Mow gone forever. I cried, until I was pulled away. My frail old, body was put in to my son Evan's who stopped by. He drove me back home, to where his wife and kids were.
I didn't want to see them though. I went stright up stairs and walked around our room looking at all of Jacks stuff. Crying over everything, and I put on one of Seán's old shirts and I cried some more. There was a knock on my door and I turned to see my three kids standing there. They all came over and hugged me.
We all cried together, and just sat around. Everyone left and I was here alone, I went to Seán's old recording room and turned on his dusty computer. I watched the videos and looked around the house, not seeing stuff that was there all this time. People came and left, and brought food, tried to help, but I pushed people away.
A lot of stuff didn't make since any more. I was sitting on the back porch today watching the sun set rapped in a blanket. It's what I did every night, since he passed.
