When I was 15 I started to seek out answers on my own. I traveled long and far from doctor to doctor. I started with my school nurse who merely kept mocking me and my symptoms. So yeah fuck her. I then went to the doctor I see regularly to get my shots and stuff and asked them about it.
"Its all in your head"responds the doctor
(Something people with TMAU here a lot)
Then I went to those who specialize in certain disorders that I've heard come about in my research. After 1 year I was still completely lost about what I had so then at 16 I finally decided to look online.
All I had to type in was "fishy body odor" and immediately something called Trimethylaminuria(TMAU or Fish Odor Syndrome) came up. I started watching videos and documentaries about it online. I thought to myself that sounds like me. I looked for a doctor that did TMAU testing and begged my mom to take me until she said yes. The testing cost $600 and it came back positive now I finally knew what was going on. I knew I wasn't crazy and I knew it wasn't my fault. Even though I still had the symptoms it was comforting to finally have an idea of what was going on.
