Gon stares at death.

Death stares back at Gon.

"You're early." Death finally says.

"I know." Gon replies.

Never had Gon ever thought that death would look like this.

Silver strands of whispy hair flowing in the wind, blue eyes so bright they burned a hole right through you, and skin so pale it almost glowed.

"I'm sorry." Gon continues.

"I know." Death responds.

"I really am."

"I know you are."

"No you don't understand!"

"I do."

"I should've saved you!"

The island boy's words echo through the void of space and time as he looks at his deceased best friend. "Why did you have to go? I miss you so much Killua! So, so much! And so do Alluka, and Leorio, and Kurapika. And Knuckle and Morel, and Ikalgo, and Bisky, and Palm, and even Canary!"

Death holds up a hand, "Stop Gon."

"Why? Don't you know we miss you? That we want to see you again? Alluka's still upset, I'm still upset, everyone is upset Killua! Don't you know the damage you've caused?! When you just gave yourself up to your brother? When you just gave up? Didn't Biscuit tell you to never stop fighting? Didn't she tell us to stick together?"

"That doesn't count."

"How can you say that? You gave everything up, to beat him! He killed you Killua killed you! And I had to stand there and watch, watch you die! Do you know how hard that was? To see you destroy yourself for the sake of trying to kill him? He was so much stronger than you! But you thought you could do it. And after all those years after we split up, after you stopped calling, stoped texting, do you know how hard it was to get you back after losing you? You're so selfish Killu-"

"YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY THAT!"

Gon, stares at death.

Death stares back at Gon.

"You don't have the right to say that..." Death says it again, quieter this time. "I know everyone missed me! Don't you think I miss you guys too? Missed you Gon? You're such a hypocrite! Sure, maybe I just gave up, part of me wishes I still fought. Part of me wishes I still hung on and killed him before he killed me, but I didn't. And you've caused damage too Gon! Don't look so surprised! You destroyed yourself to kill Pitou, lost your arm, gave it all up for Kite! Gave your friends up for Kite! Gave Mito, and your grandmother, gave ME up for Kite! But you know what, it's my fault!"

"Killua, i'm sorry. I'm really sorry!"

"DON'T TELL ME YOU'RE SORRY!"

"Don't tell me, you want to fix it! You can't fix it! I stopped calling, I stopped texting because you never responded! You never even made an effort to reach out to me! But it's fine right? I risked my LIFE to heal you! My baby SISTER'S life! I threatened to kill my OWN MOTHER. Because you SCREWED UP. Not me, not Alluka, not Nanika, YOU DID." Death was struggling to control himself now, his hands clenched into small fists at his side, as his best friend stood by in sorrow.

"And yes, I died, but I gave you everything I had for TWO YEARS! I'm sorry, if you're upset, and i'm sorry If you you want to blame this on me, but act like this is MY DAMN FAULT GON! Because it's not."

"I know it's not your fault Killua, it's all mine, and I know that now."

Gon steps towards death.

"I messed up."

Step

"I was horrible to you."

Step

"I did things I can't undo."

Step

Gon was hugging Killua now, tan arms wrapped around him in a tight embrace, in an attempt to calm him down. "Please don't cry Killua."

Tears slowed in their trail down death's face as he falls into his friends chest. "I tried so hard Gon, so god damn hard."

"I know."

"He was too strong."

"I know."

"I wanted to win, I didn't want to run away."

"I know."

"I missed you so much."

"I missed you too."

"Do you mean that?"

"I do."

Death stands up.

"You know you have to go back."

Gon sighs, "I just wish we had more time."

Killua walks to the window, allowing him to see to the outside world. "They'll miss you more than you think."

Gon can feel the tears running down his face, hot and salty, and so painful. "No, I want to stay with you!"

"Oh, Gon."

A cold palm touches his cheek. "We'll meet again, but I don't want to see you anytime soon alright?"

"You have to promise to visit me."

"Gon, I can't do that."

"I want to see you Killua!"

"Later."

Gon wipes his face. "Do you promise?" He croaks.

A small smile.

"Of course."

A tilt of his chin, and soft pale lips are all Gon feels until a blinding white light takes over his mind, and he's back in the world of the living.

And somewhere in-between the crushing hugs and tears and lectures filled with love, the wind carries a soft voice to his ears.

"Sealed with a kiss. Just, don't be early next time."
