Lily's POV

We could smell the wolves waiting on the horizon, and as soon as they came into view, I noticed there was a small girl standing next to the alpha (I guess that's who he was). I didn't really pay him much attention, but I wondered how old you had to be to fight in the wolf pack. Then a nudge from my left pulled me out of my thoughts, and back onto the field. Then we were running. It was loud, and nothing my father had prepared me for. I realized I hadn't been taught to fight, I had been taught to defend. I noticed one of my cousins struggling, and about to be taken down by a wolf. I hurried forward, and sank my teeth into his or her neck. I didn't even notice my fangs had come out. The wolf whined and the growled, turning towards me. Faster than even I could comprehend it changed, into a twenty something brunette, and she grabbed me, twisting my arm back farther than should have been possible. She let out a roar, and everyone near us stopped fighting. Silence fell over the field, as people realized what had happened. I heard a shout.

A werewolf came to the front, dragging my father, and smiling. My father was still, but he was begging with the pack. "Let her go. Please. I'll do anything, just let her go." The crowd parted at the front, like Moses with the Red Sea. Then, the man I briefly saw at the start came into view. My wrist stung, and I quickly looked down, not sure what had happened. There was a mark there that wasn't there before. The wolf holding me gasped, and tightened her grip. I looked up to see the alpha looking straight at me. He mouthed a word I didn't understand. He held up his wrist. He had two of the marks on his wrist, and I had no idea what the hell was going on. He looked at my father, and I followed his gaze.

'What's going on?' I mouthed to my father, whose face had hardened. He looked at the alpha. "Let me see hers" he hissed menacingly. The alpha nodded to the girl holding me, and she grabbed my arm and faced my wrist out towards everyone else. They looked at my wrist, where the strange mark was.

"NO!" I heard Danny yell. "You can't take her!" He suddenly broke off, and then I saw him. He was laying on the ground, not moving. I looked at the alpha, not believing they would just kill him like that. There had to be some degree of mercy. He looked back at me, and seeing the horrified look on my face he walked up closer, and quietly said, "He's not dead. He's just knocked out. They wouldn't kill someone important to my mate."

"Mate?" I questioned. What was he talking about, mate? I had heard of old fairy tales, but those were stories. He couldn't be serious. My father nodded to the alpha, then pulled a white piece of fabric out of his pocket. A surrender. Not a bad thing, but it also signaled to the pack that we were weak.

"Don't hurt her." he begged with the alpha. He nodded. The pack started moving back, and the girl who was holding me scooped me up off of the ground, and started running towards the pack land. I tried to struggle, but she was holding me too tight. What was going to happen to me?
