Athleticism

"Your stance is off," Felicity called, glancing over at Laurel, where she was training in the Foundry.

"What?" said Laurel, distracted.

Felicity stood up from her computers and moved to beside the Black Canary.

"If you move your foot back just a bit more." She kicked Laurel's foot into place. "You will be able to put more force into your punches."

Laurel had a go at punching the dummy. The force was so much stronger than before.

She stared at the woman at the computers. "How did you know that?"

"I grew up in Vegas," said Felicity dismissively. "My mom worked in a cocktail bar. Men would get drunk and think that i would be an easy target. So I had self defence classes every week."

"What kind of self defence classes did you take?" asked Laurel, wrapping a towel around her neck.

"I took karate, jujitsu and boxing," Felicity said. "Plus gymnastics and ballet."

"Any chance we could spar sometime?" Laurel asked, sitting on the desk next to her.

"Sure," said Felicity. "I come in here every morning to check the systems and to practise. You could join me tomorrow. Is seven o'clock good?"

"That sounds good," Laurel smiled as she left to the Verdant above them.

Felicity dropped her bag on the floor next to her computers. Inside it was her clothes for the day, her phone, her purse, the chalk she needed, a water bottle and her staff. She turned on all the computers and checked them all for alerts and problems. As she did so, she stretched all of her muscles and warmed up her body.

When nothing showed up she went over to the salmon ladder and began to climb up one of the poles like a monkey. When she got to the top, she grabbed the bar, Oliver used to climb it. She began to swing back and forth, then spun up onto the bar. She swung one leg over the bar and then leaned back and hung by her legs. She gripped the standing poles and let go with her feet. She spread her legs apart and did a handstand in the middle of air. She slowly slid down the two standing poles by her hands until she was nearly at the bottom. Then she put her legs together again and dropped to the floor.

She picked up her water bottle and took a deep chug then spilt some of the water on the floor. She pulled on a pair of dance shoes, she rubbed her feet in the water and turned on her phone. Selecting the song 'Why Don't I' by Sofia Carson, she moved into the middle of the floor.

Listening intently to the music she began to dance. Soon she was lost, completely immersed in the notes and the words of the song, moving gracefully around the room.

Laurel came down the stairs to the Foundry. She could hear music playing and was curious as to what Felicity was doing.

As she looked around, she saw her clumsy, geeky, computer friend, spinning around the room constantly. Completely ignoring the world around her.

When the music stopped, Felicity stood on her toes with her head bowed, her arms spread apart and her chest heaving.

"Wow."

Felicity snapped her head up and saw Laurel standing at the bottom of the stairs, staring, wide eyed.

"Felicity, that was amazing," she said, coming towards her friend.

"Uh... how much of that did you see?" Felicity asked nervously.

"Enough," said Laurel. "To see that you are absolutely amazing!"
