Gaining more knowledge in the field you are interested in writing about is definitely a smart move.
Why? Because the more information you have on a topic, the less challenging it seems to write on.
Ask questions about that topic. Don't claim to know it all! Do an interview with professionals on that field.
I was writing a book, Coming Home and I was a bit hesitant in when it came to writing about her medical history as a pregnant woman. I had never been pregnant before so I needed insight on pregnancy. Thankfully, my neighbor was a pharmacist and I figured she'd have a little bit if knowledge and she did! In fact, she related enough information that I didn't have to research on Google anymore.
Request interviews. Ask questions. Don't be a master at it all. And while you're at it, get the right information. I've written about marriage but I've never been married, how did I achieve that? I read books on marriages, studied married couples so we'll that I could easily relate to them.
Be flexible when researching. As much as you're passionate about that topic, don't forget that someone else has looked into it before.
Now that you've researched, you have more to put down, true or true?
