My phone rang on Monday morning while I was getting ready, and I picked it up immediately. Addison's voice rang out loud and clear. "Y/N! Did you hear the news?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about. Hurry up and tell me!" I tugged my hair brush through my hair.

"Zombies are going to be attending the high school now! I didn't think the first day of freshman year would be so interesting. I don't mind it, but my parents aren't happy about this." Her voice was a mix of both concern and excitement.

"I'm going to eat breakfast and then I'll swing by your house. Give me like five minutes, and we'll be able to discuss this." She made a high pitched noise and hung up. I ran downstairs, grabbed a piece of toast and ran out the door. She only lived a few blocks away, but I speed walked, because I had a lot of thoughts on what was going to be different from now on.

Addison was waiting in front of her house, bouncing on her toes when I arrived. "My mom said that zombies are the same as us, so I don't think it should be too much of a deal, Addy. I hope there aren't many people who will judge them," I told her.

She sighed and said, "I hope they're not as bad as my parents say they are. Dad always warns me about them being dangerous, but they have Z-bands now."

"They should be fine Addy. They're human too."

"I know, I know. Bucky will be mad and tell my parents if he sees me talking to a zombie though. It could cost me a spot on the cheerleading team. He can't do anything to me, if you talk to them though." We stepped through the front doors of the school.

"Ugh, I wish your family was a little more open-minded Addison. Well, I'll see you at lunch." She gave me a quick hug and headed to her locker. Unfortunately, mine was halfway across the school. When I got there, a section of lockers right next to mine was painted green. I assumed those would be the lockers for some of the zombies, but none of them were in sight. I shoved my pink backpack into the matching pink locker, but kept my sketchbook and a pencil with me, as I headed to my study hall.

I made it to first hour just as the bell rang and took my seat. After the teacher took attendance, the principal came on over the PA system. "Attention students, there has been a change in plans. There is not enough room in the basement for all of the zombies, so zombies will just be joining the humans. Teachers, there will only be a few extra students in each of your classes. This is just a minor adjustment. Continue on with your day." Everyone in the room turned to face the door, waiting to see how many zombies would be in our class.

I was part of the popular group, so only my clique sat with me, but none of my friends had study hall with me. This meant quite a few of the seats around me were empty, so I knew I'd be sitting by the zombies. I opened my sketchbook and continued my drawing until I heard the class door open, and people sat down next to me. I figured the zombies were already uncomfortable with the stares they were receiving, so I didn't look up until a few minutes later.

The zombie on my left had some sort of brass instrument with him and was looking at sheet music. I looked to my right and was surprised. This zombie was... cute. He was more attractive than any of the humans at our school. His hair was kind of spiked, but also sort of in a quiff. He was tall, definitely over 6 feet. The zombie was holding his class schedule and had a confused look on his face. I figured he didn't know where most of his classes were. I was about to offer help, but then realized not all zombies can speak English. What if he couldn't either? I took a moment to rationalize before speaking.

"Hey, I'm Y/N."

He turned to look at me and seemed baffled that I was talking to him.

"I'm Zed..."
