As soon as Addison saw me the next morning, she knew something had happened. "Ooooh, you look happier than usual. Did you find a way to hang out with Zed again?" She was hopping up and down, giving me a knowing look.
"I went to Zombietown to meet him. He took me to a party." I wanted to scream it at her, but I kept my voice down, because I didn't want other people to hear. "We almost got caught by zombie patrol, and I stayed the night as his place."
"You didn't like ya know? Or anything like that?"
"No, oh my Gods no."
"Okay, good. Also, isn't the phrase 'oh my God'?"
"Girl, you need to read those Percy Jackson books. You had no childhood!" I shook her by the shoulders.
"I haven't made it through all of your bookshelves yet!" she defended herself. "We need to get back onto our original topic. There's got to be more." Addison wiggled her eyebrows at me.
"Heaskedmetohomecoming," I blurted out. Her jaw dropped and then she squealed.
"We have to go dress shopping then, but won't Bucky kick you off the squad?"
"If he does, it'll be his loss, won't it?"
Addy giggled, "Now that is the mindset we should always be in." We stepped through the schools doors and sighed. "I'll see you soon." She gave me a one-arm hug and flounced off as usual. Before I made it to my locker, I heard familiar voices arguing loudly. They were the Acey's and Eliza.
"I knew humans could be horrifically evil, but I didn't think you'd stoop so low and try to steal my computer! Not to mention the fact that you casually want to just hack our bands so we go full-on zombie." Eliza shook her head and glared at them before spinning on her heel and taking off. Seemed like Bucky was going to mess with the zombies as much as he could no matter what. It wouldn't matter what I did or didn't do, so what was the point in avoiding Zed in public?
Watching the little squabble between Eliza and the Acey's meant I barely missed Zed at our lockers. That was fine. I would see him in first hour. When I walked in and took the seat next to him, he looked up, surprised. "What are you doing?" he whispered across the aisle.
"We can stop hiding this, Zed. Bucky is going to torment you wether or not you interact with humans, and that torments me too. He'll take the same actions either way, so we might as well stick it out together."
He shook his head, a little exasperated. "I'm for it, if you're actually okay with it." I nodded and reached over to squeeze his hand. "I'll start walking you home then."
We sat together at lunch too. I saw Bucky out of the corner of my eye. He was getting up to drag me away from the zombie table, but Addison and Bree pulled him back down. For the rest of lunch, he stared daggers into the back of my head, but I pretended to not notice at all. The others at the table didn't handle it as well. All the attention was making them uncomfortable, and they squirmed in their seats. I stood up and strutted over to the cheerleaders' table. My palms slammed against the wood, startling them. "Stop staring at us like we're a freak show. If you have something to say, then say it now." My voice was stern, but not raised. No one said anything; just looked at me in shock, so I went back to sit with Zed.
"Well that was something," Zed commented.
"Thought I was going to end up taking one for the team, but it looks like I'm safe for now." I breathed out a sigh of relief and shrugged my shoulders. He put his arms around me and kissed my forehead. I loved when he did that. It felt natural even with his friends watching us. I smirked, so the cheerleaders could see and winked at them. If Bucky wanted to mess with the zombies, then I'd rub the fact that I was with them in his face as much as I could. I was going to make it a game. He pushes. I push back harder. I needed to think of something that would really get on his nerves.
A/N
This is just a filler chapter, and I know it took over two weeks to put out. That makes me feel guilty, and I don't have a good excuse as to why it took so long. All of my attention has gone to my relationship😬so sorry about that
