Time had passed and my fear faded away just a little. I was still on edge but relaxed at the same time. My mom would be getting out soon enough after her surgery and life seemed to be straightening out a little bit. About a week ago was the last time that I'd seen LJ (the nickname I had given him now). However, everywhere I went I heard a slow demented version of pop goes the weasel, and I swear that Laughing Jack is near.
"Umm, miss? Miss?" The cashier brought my attention back to his face. I had to admit...he was gorgeous. His black hair looked soft to the touch and his clear skin did as well. "Oh, Im sorry. How much is this again?" I scratched the back of my head nervously. He laughed flashing me a pearly white smile. "$67.52" he replied. I nodded and couldn't help but smile. He is soooo handsome. I dug through my bag until I felt the wallet and opened it to pay him. "Thank you...Justin." I read his name tag. "Why, you're so welcome... " He squinted his almond eyes and pretended to read an imaginary name tag on my shirt. "Ummmm...yeah I don't know your name." He shrugged at me. We laughed at his joke. "So you weren't just leaning in to look at my chest?" I asked him playfully. "Haha, noooo. But seriously though, I'd rather look at your face for hours." He winked at me. "Phssss, shut up!" I playfully smacked his shoulder. "Ahem!" We turned to see an old woman impatiently tapping her feet and holding a melon. "Just a moment miss." Justin flashed her a smile and she seemed to calm down. That boy could probably melt even Satan's heart with that amazing smile! We turned our attention back to each other. "Listen, I'd really like to know you please?" He asked me kindly. I smiled at him and pulled a pen from my purse. I heard the woman growl when I wrote my number down on Justin's hand. "There, now will you please ring Godzilla up behind me before she destroys the entire city?" He laughed at my joke. "Are you racist because I'm Asian?" He joked. Before I left I shouted."Only if you are because I'm Black." I then went to the parking lot and found my mom's prius. I loaded the groceries up and left with a huge smile on my face.
What was I worried about again?
When I arrived home, I danced around my living room to music and then put up the groceries. I had all but ignored the candy wrapper on my floor again. I shrugged my shoulders and avoided them when I strutted up to my room. If I was going to die soon, I'd die happy! I sighed and spun around before laying on my bed and screaming into my pillow. No boy had made my heart flutter the way this one had done it today. I can't believe that's all it took to forget about a homicidal clown for the moment. Look at life...my skin was doing its job by healing up the cut. In fact, my wound didn't sting anymore at all. I meet an amazing boy and mom was going to be home soon? Best of all, no sign of Jack at all! Of course some sort of bad luck had to come my way again because there he was...right in front of me again. I'll admit that his sudden apperance scared me a bit, but it really didn't do much else. I was tired of his games and far too happy to let him soil it. "What's got you so excited little Jess? The thought of dying finally growing on you?" He glared at me as if he wanted me to tremble for my life. I just cleared my throat and replied to him, "W-well, if you must know, I'm living my life before you kill me. It's none of your business but, I have a date." I admitted to him fearlessly. Surprisingly, he just shook his head in disapproval like my mom would do.
"I thought you'd never date. You and I promised each other-" I cut him off before he could even hope to continue toying with me. "Look, if I'm going to die then I will live my life no matter what. Now go away." I told him bravely. He simply chuckled at me. "Oh I better go before little Jess throws a tantrum!" He joked with me as if we were still friends. I only had time to growl at him before he disappeared in a puff of smoke. Thinking about my date got my mind off of the little run-in with LJ. I smiled widely and sighed. After a while of fumbling with my phone and hoping for a text from the boy, I had fallen asleep. Even my dreams were plagued with happy images. I had finally reached a high point in the middle of the storm that's my life. Soon morning had come and my eyes fluttered open to meet with the bright sunlight that was coming through my window. I sat up and yawned happily knowing what today would bring. As if on cue my cellphone started to vibrate. I picked it up and read unknown number but I answered anyway.
"Hello?" I answered, trying to keep my excitement at a minimum.
"Guess who?"
"A dead guy if this is some kind of prank." I growled.
"Well I'm officially terrified. No this isn't a prank, it's me. Y'know... Justin?" The familiar voice spoke to me.
"Whoops, sorry. So what are you up to?"
"Asking a beautiful girl on a date."
"Well I hope she says yes in Chinese so you'll understand her."
"Im Japanese."
"..." I froze up an hoped that I didn't offend him.
"Just kidding, but seriously though, Im Korean." He nchuckled over the phone. I eased up and relaxed at his silly demeanor. "Anyways, text me your adress and I'll be there at 10:30."
"Okay!" I hung up the phone and squealed excitedly. I texted him my adress and quickly hoped out of bed. Then I had went to take a shower. While in the shower I sang Call me maybe loudly and obnoxiously because of my extreme excitement. Aftewards, I put on a summer blouse and capris with strappy sandals. I smiled and curled my hair a bit before putting on the minimal amount of make-up. When I came out of the bathroom there was a trail of empty candy wrappers that lead all the way to my bed. On the bed was a note that read:
Little Jess, hardly knew that she'd soon meet impending doom. Love LJ
I heard the sound of a car horn honk and I looked out my window to see a cherry red Chevy Comaro. I ignored the note, crumpled it up, and went downstairs to leave for this perfect day.
