I gasped, my heart pounded fiercely in my chest. I delved in his warm hard body as my arms went around his waist. He is real. He is here. I haven't lost my mind after all.
"I've been looking for you." He whispered in my ear his breath hot and ticklish.
I pushed to look up at him, still feeling confused. I couldn't think straight.
"Why?"
"I wanted to talk with you." He was all seriousness. He looked behind me. "You must be Veronic. Leah told me about you."
Veronic took Nicolas hand and shook it, her eyes slightly narrowing, and then introduced Cécile to him. They exchanged few words for a minute as I stood quietly trying to digest the fact that Nicolas was here, standing next to me, his arm around my waist pulling me to his side.
What was going on?? Leah! You door mat!
"We will leave you two to catch up." Veronic suddenly said as our car came into the driveway.
"No...I will come..." I said stepping away from. I couldn't understand my friends action. She hated Nicolas, at least I thought she did.
"Don't be silly Leah. You catch up with Nicolas. We will meet again this week." Cécile shooed me with her hand a bright smile, which is beginning to freak me out, wide on her lips. "It was lovely meeting you Monsieur Scott." She said to Nicolas almost sighing out his name.
I watched my best friend and Cécile who is going to change everything for us in our career get into the car and drive away. I just hope Veronic can manage Cécile on her own and not come to agreements I wasn't going to approve of.
"I'm sorry I cut your meeting short." Nicolas said uncertainly beside me.
"What?..." I whipped my head to look at him. I was still in a daze watching as the car disappeared. So many things going through my mind. Nicolas was here. He didn't look mad. He looked relieved that he found me. Why?
"Leah...what's wrong?"
I snapped out of my shock. First of all, I had forgotten how tall he was. I was wearing flat boots and I felt like an elf beside him. Not helping at all! Second, he had a faint tan to his face and his hair was longer than I remembered, curling at the nape of his neck. Beautiful, my hands itched to bury my fingers in his head and maybe pull at his hair, catfight style.
The silver of his eyes was the same, the crinkling lines...I never realized how much I have missed him more than I thought until I'm standing here looking up at him. No! No! Not going to happen! Where is your dignity doormat?
What's wrong?! He got to be kidding! Wasn't he the one who attacked my integrity? Wasn't he the one who claimed I was paid to cause him a scandal?! I scowl at him!
"Correct me if I'm wrong, weren't you the one who accused me of playing games and planning to instigate a scandal?" I snarl at him. Yes, snarling is good. Standing my ground is amazing. I put my hands on my waist like an angry fishmonger's wife ready for a fight. I'm an avid Asterix and Obelix comic books. There is a fishmonger's wife who likes to start fights and bitch slap anyone who gets near her with a stinking fish!
"It seems I have put you in a state of shock instead of surprise as I intended." He said a little amused. "I was hoping to surprise you."
Yeah I'm surprised alright, beyond surprised. But what had brought him here?
"It isn't funny Nicolas! I'm not in shock! I'm furious!"
He sighed, looked out into the street, his features grim, before turning his attention back at me, those heart breaking eyes boring into me.
