"Dammit!" you yelled aloud. You'd lost at yet again at the basketball hoops after feeding the machine tons of tickets for tons of tries. 

"Maybe it's time to take a break?" your best friend, B/F/N, said. "You've been at it for hours. I'm going to need to get to practice soon anyway."

"Can you grab some more tickets?" you asked, shoving a ten-dollar bill in her hand.

S/He gave it back to you instantly. "I'm not condoning you wasting more money on games you won't win. It looks like you have just enough for. . . those ancient martial arts games over there!" S/He pointed to the group of old games with the martial artists from various countries that were fighting together. "You've played those, haven't you?"

You scoffed. "Yeah. It's too old though. I just want some more tickets. Please?"

"No!" B/F/N said. "I've got practice and you need a break. I'm leaving. I'm not condoning your arcade addiction anymore, Y/N."

You huffed and stuck out your bottom lip in a pout as you watched him/her go. Now, since you'd spent all your money on tickets for games you were doomed to lose, you had nothing left but just enough tickets for one round of the martial arts game from the 80s. 

It wasn't until you'd finally fed the last of your tickets into the machine did you learn that you needed another person.

"Wha. . ." You slammed the machine angrily, trying to get your tickets back. It was to no avail, sadly. Your tickets were trapped, wasted on an ancient game that no one played.

At least, until it pinged and started up, with a screen displaying various colorful characters to choose from. 

Someone was sitting across from you, playing the game but your vision was blocked by the boxy game.

You smiled a bit to yourself. Whoever this mysterious stranger was, you were grateful they'd sat down and played because your tickets weren't wasted now. You sat down and selected a random character and the person on the other side did the same.

The controls were awkward and out-of-place but you still managed to try to complete the round. Through many kicks, spins, and strange movements that were definitely not martial arts moves, you still. . . ended up losing the round.

"Damn!" you cursed loudly. You stood up, desperate to see who had been playing on the other side. You were surprised to see it was someone in your grade. . . someone you'd seen before in the hallways. He was still wearing his uniform like you but had a mask over his face. His blue eyes met yours before they quickly flickered back to the control pad. "You're the Ro'meave boy, right?"

"Ro'meave boy. . ." he repeated as if in disbelief but quickly snapped out of it. "Uh, yeah, Zane." He stood up and held out his hand. You shook it, a subconscious smug look.

"I'm Y/N. You're pretty good at that game. Why did you start playing it all-of-a-sudden? And how come I never saw you come in? You and I have the same uniform. . . it only makes sense that I would've noticed you."

Zane broke eye contact. "Yeah, um, well. . . I've seen you going in here after school a lot. Today, I just wanted to. . . shoot my shot, I guess? You're really into arcade games so I figured meeting like this wouldn't be too awkward."

You laughed. Was that a blush behind his mask? "Shoot your shot? Only if you buy me some more tickets. I've been looking for a new gaming partner." 

He walked out with a nod and you laced your arm in his so you two were linking elbows. He stiffened at first but then relaxed in your touch. B/F/N be damned, you had a good feeling about your new gaming partner.

sdkjfkds post malone's album is really good, it's the only thing that gets me writing this book haha. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE request, MONTHLY updates are not healthy and i am sorry! i seriously have no motivation ughhh... anyways, have a great day/night!
