The confusion on the monsters faces got replaced by a broad grin.
Foolish humans. one of them laughed.
Kaits grip tightened around my hand and I could hear her breath quickening again. Luke shrank back a little in fear. Behind me I could still hear the old womans fingers punching various buttons.
“A little more time.. I just need a little more time for this damned thing to work.” I heard her say angrily.
One of the creatures leaned against the wall, stopping his companions to get nearer, earning angry looks from them.
Let's not hurry my friends. As this mechanism is not working – and won't any time soon, I assure you – we have plenty of time. Our master will not expect us any time soon. Isn't this wonderful? Stretching our claws again, breathing in the fear of humans? I want to taste this feeling of freedom a little while longer. So be patient, my friends, your food will not be running away from you.
The two smaller ones hissed angrily, but calmed down some what after the tallest, toughest looking one uttered these words. I, on the other hand, felt even less hopeful. Did he just mention that I will not be escaping? That this mechanism – what ever it is – is not working correctly? How the hell does he even know that?
I glanced at my friends beside me. All of them where in a state of shock, frozen in place, eyes never leaving the three shadows in front of us. Even if we tried to run, we would not get far – if they where so fearful of the sight of them, they would never live through another chase.
Smell it. Can you smell it? The scent of human fear was always by far the strongest and sweetest of them all. The meager amount of Fauns we get always smell of trash – I don't understand why he keeps so many of them. He must be surrounded by the stench all day long. Ridiculous and pathetic.
Never utter these words! He hears you! One of the smaller ones looked around fearfully.
He will always hear you! Added the second one, moving closer to his fellow kinsmen.
The tallest gave them a disgusted look.
Weaklings! He hissed. Are you Surai or are you cowards, bowing down to a feeble being like Himself? You desperate creatures, are you warming to the lazy lives of imprisonment? For punishment you will not get any of the best parts of these here. Pathetic idiots.
-Not to offend you, but you are also bowing down to him.
-I NEVER bowed down to him. And I never will. The sole thing I am doing is waiting out my strategy to pounce at the right moment. Do NEVER make this mistake again or I will have your feeble blood on the ground of that palace that is our prison cell. You will not be getting any human flesh today. Let that be a lesson. Moron.
I put on a blank face to hide the smile that was creeping onto my face. In my mind I was beginning to form a plan. Maybe, just maybe, I could win the old woman behind me a little more time – she already got more than enough just through the bickering and quarreling of the Surai.
-What is that I smell? Excitement? That is new to me. Why would some one be excited about dying a slow and painful death?
The white, glowing eyes scrutinized our faces one by one till the tallest Surai hefted his gaze on me. Well shit. But at least I got his attention.
I cleared my throat. Show time.
“You say you aren't scared of him? Pah! That statement is ridiculous! Don't worry boys, he's just hiding this fact from you cause he wants to look strong. Every one fears Him. It is a natural thing to do! How can you not be afraid of him? Truly, the only exception to this rule is me. I'm not afraid of any body.”
