Chapter 13: ASU Hoco (part 2)

"Zoey take lead" kept racing through my mind, I could not believe this was happening why would she do this.

Luckily I had always closely watched Ava practice so I know the routine but I was still scared I would screw it up. I wondered if she did this just so I would mess up and embarrass myself.

The other girls were looking at me with confused jealous faces and I wanted to tell that I did not know what was going on but I strutted down to the front and got in position.

"I can do this" I kept repeating to myself, "it's the same as high school the only difference is there are a lot more people here"

I snapped out of my scared state when I remembered my family was here and I could not disappoint them, I would never hear the end of it.

I let the music flow through me and finally put my game face on, it was now or never this was my only shot.

Once the song ended I was so proud of myself, my family was jumping up and down and cheering for me. The icing on the cake was when I saw ASU's captain yank Tamera back and make her go back to her spot.

I turned to return to my seat when Ava said "No finish out the quarter, I want to her to know that my freshman is better than their captain as well"

I wanted to refuse and go back to my spot as tail because this was so much pressure but I knew I couldn't so I sat back down and faced them.

I danced my ass off for the next 10 minutes and I was finally able to go back to my spot.

The other girls stared at me for the rest of the game but on the inside, I didn't care what any of them were thinking because I knew I killed it.

I looked over to where my family was sitting and my mother nodded at me and that's all the approval I needed.

The end of the game quickly approached and we came out on top. ASU was pissed because we beat them at their own homecoming. We walked off and went in the room to get our bags and ASU's dance team walked in.

"What the hell was that Ava" their captain yelled, Ava laughed "It's called fighting fire with fire".

Tamera walked up to me like she wanted to fight and I put my hand up "That's the last time I should ever have to prove to you who's better" I told her

She was pissed to the max "That's why your boyfriend was fucking me" she yelled.

I laughed in her face "Do you honestly think I care about that anymore" I asked her "You got him sis, congratulations you won I guess" I told her.

I was glad I could finally say that and not be lying, it took a long time to get over their betrayal but I finally was and I could not be happier.

I went outside to greet my family before we had to get on the bus. They were all waiting for me smiling.

"Thats how you do it niecey pooh" my aunt yelled and hugged me.

My grandmothers were smiling and my father came up and hugged me "Good job baby girl and who the hell is that boy who was yelling at you" he asked and I laughed.

"Nobody, dad" I told him but I was still smiling and I then looked over to my mother.

She looked me up and down "Keep your arms straight next time" she said before hugging me.

I was so happy I wanted to cry it had been so long since she didn't yell at me after a game I didn't know how to react.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see Lorenzo standing behind me, he was smiling hard and he picked me up and spun me around "That was amazing since when were you captain" he asked and I just shrugged.

I felt a strong arm push me to the side and saw my father standing next to me "So you think my daughter is your" he made air quotation marks "baby" he asked.

Lorenzo smoothed his clothes down and cleared his throat "I'm Lorenzo" he said to my father.

"Boy I ain't ask your name, I asked about you calling my daughter baby, you think yall together now or something" he asked

"Dad stop" I told him

"No Zoey it's okay he has the right to react this way" Lorenzo said.

"Damn right I do" my father agreed with him.

Lorenzo nodded "But no sir me and Zoey are not together I just think she is an amazing girl and I hope that one day with your blessing we can be together" he said

My father stared him down "What do you do" he asked Lorenzo

"I'm a sports medicine major and I also play basketball" once he said basketball my father's eyes lit up and they got into this big basketball conversation about Steph Curry and Lebron.

"Dolls on the bus" Ava yelled. I said bye to my family and I tried to hug my father and Lorenzo but they swatted me away and continued their conversation so I rolled my eyes and got on the bus.

As soon as the bus pulled off Taylor jumped up and yelled "What the fuck was that, why the hell did the babydoll lead us"

We all turned to look at her and I saw that other people felt the same way as her and they all started small side conversations

"I have been on this team two semesters longer than her and all I've ever done is hold the banner what kind of bribe did her mother give you" she continued

I got up "My mother didn't bribe anyone" I yelled back and Taylor rolled her eyes "Of course she did and we all know it, I'm just the only one on this bus who not scared of Ava and will say something about it" she continued and me and her argued back and forth for a while.

Ava got up "Both of you sit down and shut the hell up" she yelled over top of us, for Taylor not to be scared of Ava she sure did sit faster than me.

"Now Taylor I never asked nor did I say I wanted anyone to be scared of me and to address why you're always on the banner its simply because your not going enough to dance on the team, when you got to cut your first year at tryouts please tell the team what you beeged me, well im sure you won't do that so I will tell them myself,  YOU begged me to let you do something and I said we need banner girls and you were hype as hell so don't try to act like you above it now, I will not have messy people dancing with us at games, we only want the best now please feel free to leave if you dont like that and if not do me a favor shut up" she said.

She then turned to everyone "Now as for Zoey leading they brought their crab up and I had to let them know I was confident enough to the same, if anyone else has a problem with the way I run my team please speak up or forever hold your peace" Ava paused and looked around "Okay, no one" she asked.

"Good now that was your chance to voice your opinion if any more problems arise save my breath and just leave I don't like when people question what I do" and she sat back down.

No one dared to say a word the whole way back.
