154 days later: Ezekiel sits by the fire on the cold hard ground. His companions slept around him. All was peaceful and all was calm. Bear was snuggled up into a pillow he had scavenged. Carlos and Kelly were holding their infant son, Kellos, between their bodies. Making sure he stayed warm. Jeffery and Irene were laying back to back on top of cardboard. The fire was the only true source of heat for anyone in the area. It was only when Kellos had started to cry and squirm out of his parents grasp that everyone decided to wake up. The cry had caused Jeffery to wake up in a panic and roll over into the nearby shallow stream of water. Ezekiel laughed as Jeffery tried his hardest to frantically get out of the water. He screamed as though he was being attacked. Making Ezekiel burst out into laughter. Irene rolled her eyes while the others had started to laugh as well.
Kelly took Kellos into her arms and cradled him ever so gently. She exposed her right breast so Kellos could feed. She lightly whimpered a bit but smiled. Bear watched and blushed brightly before turning away. Ezekiel thought about the child getting to eat while the adults had nothing. Making him a little depressed, but he forgot about it as Jeffery groaned out.
Jeffery: Ughhh even my underwear is fucking soaked.
Carlos: Hey. watch the language, there's a child here.
Jeffery: Oh suck it up, its too young to even understand what we're saying. And sorry, but this is cold as shit.
Ezekiel: Be glad that winter is over. Then it would quickly turn to hypothermia.
Jeffery: Shut up, Its still cold out. it might become hypotermia
Kelly: hypoTHermia dear.
Jeffery: I didn't ask you. Now I'm going to try and find some sort of clothing in the pile. You guys can worry about today's breakfast.
Jeffery began to walk away to the public restrooms across the asphalt and gravel road. There was a lake nearby that was in view. But the group preferred to be in the partially secluded area of the stream at Sunset Lake. Bear was silent as he stood up and went to the fire to warm up. he was tired as shit. Ezekiel looked to him with a smile. Bear returned the smile and poked the fire with a stick. Carlos and kelly also got close and surrounded one side of the fire. Irene had taken the other side.
Bear: so whats on today's menu?
Carlos: well... i'd say milk but Kelly probably wouldn't want adults surrounding her.
Carlos and Kelly giggled at the remark, but no one else seemed to laugh. If anything, it was a forgotten statement as Ezekiel brought things back around.
Ezekiel: I fucking hate that kingdom or fortress or whatever the hell it is.
Irene; its a kingdo-
Ezekiel: taking every single bit of food in any of these houses or stores. There's nothing left for any of us.
Bear: Especially since those cloaked people seem to be playing tricks on us.
Carlos: Bear, we told you already. The cloaked people are just a figment of your faltering mind. and i would love to take a trip on by the Kingdom to see how they are doing.
Ezekiel: You mean they could have changed since a couple days ago?
Carlos: Not really... Just think it would be nice to see it.
Carlos looked up to see a bright blue sky with a rising sun. The weather was already getting warmer than before. The snow had all melted away and left behind green grass. Jeffery had come back wearing a thick shirt and sweatpants to stay warm. He was being a bit of a sourpuss from the harsh awakening. But he sat beside Irene and Bear, near the fire.
