Samuel knew something had changed, he had watched as Mary picked herself up from the library floor and make her way to the exit slowing to cast a pitying glance in Lilly's direction.

Thanking Cormac he rushed after her, "Mary," he quietly called, noticing that Lilly was eyeing him wearily, "Mary wait."

"For what?" she turned to him, her eyes blazing fury, "I need to find my daughter. I need to end this before he hurts," she glanced towards Lilly with knowing pain in her knowing eyes, "before he hurts someone else."

"I know," Samuel said, "and we will, but not like this, your not doing this alone we will find her together."

Mary stared at him a moment he could see her fighting an internal battle, not wanting to do this alone, not wanting him to get hurt. "Alright," she said at last, Samuel released the breath he had not realized he had been holding.

"First we go back to where it happened," Mary said.

"And where is that?" Samuel asked, not liking the way Mary was watching him at the moment.

"My home," Mary quietly announced, "my home, your cottage."

Mary strode from the library with determined steps, she was done crying, done being afraid. She would no longer allow herself to be the victim, she was through being the prey it was now time for her to become the predator.

The vile creature Fergus now was, had always been, had been there lurking in the library shadows. Watching, waiting, had even set his sights upon his next victim, poor Lilly the sweet librarian. Well not if she had anything to do with it. It was time to end this, first she would find her daughter, then she was going to destroy Fergus.

"I'm hungry," Samuel suddenly announced,

"How can you be hungry now?" asked an irritated Mary.

"Well I have not eaten since last night and already I have been told that I am living in a mass murder cottage and being stalked by the ghost of mass murderer in question. That would kind of make a bloke hungry, don't you think?"

"Well I would not know, firstly I am not a bloke, secondly I am a ghost and ghosts have no need of food," Mary snapped, growing more and more irritated. "And I am not to sure two murders makes a mass murderer or a mass murder cottage."

She could not believe how inconsiderate he was being, she was the victim here, her and Bethy had been murdered in the so called murder cottage, not him. She bit back a tear, nope she told herself, remember you are done crying.

Samuel pulled her to a stop, "I'm sorry, that was wrong of me, its just a shock, that is no excuse I know. I'm just sorry I truly am, for everything, for everything he did to you and everything he took from you."

Mary nodded, not going to cry, not going to cry, she repeated to herself, so instead she reached up pulled his head to hers and placed a gentle kiss to his lips. "I know," she whispered, "now what do you want to eat?"

Two minutes later they strolled into Lawson's cafe that was situated just around the corner from the library. Mary supposed it was the ideal spot, folk could wander from the library their latest book in hand, and perch at one of the little wooden tables sat at the front of the cafe. Enjoy a coffee, slice of cake and the first chapter in their latest read.

Mary choose to make herself comfortable at the table farthest away from where the other customers were sat enjoying the fine day. The table overlooked the park which lay just across the road, Samuel had gone inside to place an order.
