------------

The marijuana smoke filled every corner of Taj’s Chevy Impala. As she leaned back in the driver’s seat, she slowly exhaled and passed the lit blunt to her best friend, Laynaa. Laynaa and Taj had been best friends since grade school. They had their minor fall outs now and then but they never let it stop them from being friends. Laynna had been there for Taj through all her toughest moments, and Taj appreciated it. Laynaa was the only person that knew Taj inside and out and Taj was the only person that could handle Laynaa on every level. The fact they weren’t together was a mystery to the world but the two valued their friendship more than anything to ever let a relationship interfere.

“… Then she was like ‘daddy she raped me’. My face said errwww” Taj attempted to make a sound like Scooby Doo, but it always came out sounding like a dying animal.

The two burst out in laughter like it was the funniest thing in the world.

“I told you ‘bout her when you first started talking to her…” Laynaa started.

“Yea  yea yea..” Taj cut in loudly, trying to stop the lecture that she knew Laynaa had stored in the back of her mind, just waiting for this moment. She knew Laynaa only looked out for her, but damn, could that girl talk.

“Don’t yea me Taraji, you knew that lil girl wasn’t ‘bout nothing. I told you when I saw her that she was dick dykin’. You know my gaydar never lies. I can spot an undercover bisexual bitch from afar… She was only using you ‘cause you did everything for her. That’s why she never wanted to meet your fam. That’s why when I DID see her she avoided all eye contact. That lil snake. Won’t look me in the eyes for nothin.. and THEN when she…”

“YOOOOOOO!!!!! Chill! I get it Lay! Shit!” Taj HATED being called her government name and Laynaa was always quick to use it on her. Good thing she only did it when they were alone, Taj thought to herself. The high she had aquired was slowly fading with the constant nagging in her right ear.

Laynaa shot her a look and playfully slapped her in the back of the head. “You know I don’t like being cut off. But aight, im not gonna rub it in any more. You’re hurting enough”  she said jokingly.

The truth rang hard thru Taj’s mind. The fact that she was actually hurt was actually starting to set in for the first time since everything happened. She started out the window and just sat in silence.

Laynaa smoked the last little bit of what was left of the blunt and threw it out the window. She noticed how quiet Taj had gotten and tried to regain the conversation. “You know it’s the stop light party tonight at the Phoenix. We should go. Drinks on me, ride on you.”

Taj couldn’t help but chuckle. “That dumb ass Red for taken, Yellow for its complicated, Green for single thing?”

“I know its kind of dumb, but shit, the drinks are cheap, the club stay packed, there’s good music, bathrooms aint a mess...” Layna said

Taj still wasn’t caving in.

“Cmon Taja boo, pleaseeeeeee” Laynaa pulled out her best baby voice and puppy dog eyes.

“Aight man, aight” Taj reluctantly agreed with a slight smile. She wasn’t big on clubs but Laynaa was. They always got in free and Laynaa always knew someone so it was always fun. Quite frankly, Taj needed some fun in her life after the day she had, and who knows, it might actually take her mind off of everything, especially with a few shots in her system.

Taj dropped Laynaa off at home to get ready and headed to her own house to prepare for the night.
