I woke up with pain in my right eye. Damn..
I slowly got out of bed, looking at myself in the mirror.
Yup.. That's a shiner.
I sighed, walking out the door and walking towards Linda's room.
"Morning Sweetheart" I faked a smile.
"Morning, Mummy" Linda chirped, she stared at my eye.
"Mummy, what 'appened to your e-eye?" Linda asked, trying to reach.
"No, darling. Don't touch, please. Mummy's eye hurts" I said.
She looked said, "I heard you and Grandpa shouting last night" Linda shook.
I sighed, holding her tighter, "Darling, everything is alright. Just, be careful around him alright?" I said.
Linda just nodded.
I sat her down on a chair, handing her some milk.
"Cereal?" I asked her.
She smiled, "Yes, pwease!"
I chuckled, Anything for my darling.
I walked to the kitchen, pouring Linda some cereal.
I handed her the bowl, "Here you go, darling"
She smiled, "Tank you"
I chuckled, I turned to my dad, who was reading the newspaper.
"Eggs and coffee, dad?" I asked.
"Yup." He said, not looking at me once.
I made his eggs and coffee and handing his food to him.
"Here you are, dad"
"Mhm.." He said, placing the newspaper down.
There was a knock at the door, "It must be, John" I said, rushing down the stairs.
I swung open the door, "Hi, John! Come on in!" I said, as I rushed back upstairs.
John closed the front door, following me upstairs.
"Rita, what happened to your eye?" John asked in concern.
"Wel-"
"Mummy and Grandpa were shouting last night" Linda said, we all turned to her.
"Linda, you can't say personal things like that to-"
"No, let the girl speak." Dad said.
I sighed, turning back at John.
"I better go get ready then" I said, hurrying off to my room.
I changed my clothes and got ready for school.
I walked back to the living room.
"You call this coffee, Rita?!" Dad said, as he through the cup to the wall.
The cup of coffee shattered to a million pieces.
"Go on, clean it up, alright!" He shouted at me.
I nodded, rushing over to the wall, gently picking up the pieces.
"Whore" I heard my father murmur.
I cleaned up the cup, and walked over to Linda.
Kissing Linda on the forehead, I said "Be good to Grandpa, alright? Mummy loves you" I whispered.
She smiled slightly, "I love you too, Mummy"
I smiled back.
I grabbed my bag, rushing down the stairs. "Come on, John. Let's go to school" I said.
John followed me down the stairs, and we left.
We were silent for a good 10 minutes on our way to school.
"He did that to you?" John asked.
"Me eye? Yeah." I said.
I noticed John's hands turn to fists, and his face grow in anger.
"John, you don't need to get so angry. I'll be fine." I assured him.
"How the bloody hell can you just be 'fine'!?" He shouted.
I gulped, "I-I"
"He treats you like a servant, beats you up, calls you names? What kind of fucking father does that!?" John yelled.
"He pays the bills, it's the least I can do.." I mumbled.
John laughed, "Oh, so it's fine to you to get beat up?! What about Linda? She's be next! I know it!"
I stopped walking, "Don't you dare fucking bring up my daughter into this!" I yelled.
He stopped and looked at me, "Daughter..?"
My heart raced, "She.... Um... She calls me mummy, it's an automatic thing for me to call her my daughter.." I softly said, lying.
John walked over to me, hugging me.
"I'm sorry, Rita... I just protect the people I love" He said.
My heart fluttered, He loves me?
"Thank you" I whispered.
