"I really don't think we should be doing this." Jace said worriedly.
"Don't worry, Jace. Alexander and the warlock are out. They'll never know we've been here." Maryse replied cooly.
"But Maryse-" Said Jace.
"I said enough," Maryse snapped back.
Jace sighed and joined his mother in Alec's bedroom. They were searching for something, anything, that had anything to do with black magic. This was because Maryse insisted on proving to the clave that Magnus wasn't right for Alec.
"Found anything?" asked Maryse. Jace shook his head, his mouth in a thin line. "Well we have to find something!"
Jace tenderly placed his hand on his adoptive mother's arm. "Maryse, maybe Magnus is all right. Yes, he is a warlock but not all downworlders are evil. Take Luke, for example."
Maryse's bottom lip quivered. "But- Magnus- Alec- it's not right!"
Jace looked at her with sympathy. "Face it Maryse, Magnus is a good guy. They're happy together. Why won't you let Alec make his own decisions?"
Before Maryse could answer, they heard the door open. "I thought you said they were away!" Jace whispered.
"I thought they were!" she hissed back. "What are we going to do?"
It was too late. Magnus and Alec entered, kissing each other ferociously. Jace and Maryse stood watching awkwardly. Finally they pulled apart, and it was Magnus who spotted them first.
"I see we have company." He said. Alec turned round and blushed a dark shade of red. A mixture of embarrassment and rage.
"What are you doing here?" he cried.
It was Jace who spoke up, scared of what Maryse would say if he didn't. She looked ready to explode after seeing her son kissing a male and a warlock.
"We were looking for you two. I guess we found you!" He said, giving a fake smile.
Alec frowned. "I know you're lying."
Jace sighed. "Fine. Mom wanted to find something of Magnus' to show the clave, so that they thought he was an unfit boyfriend. But I promise I had no input in the decision. You know I'm happy for you and Alec."
Alec turned to his mother, a look of pure hatred on his face. "Get out," he hissed.
Maryse paled. "Alexander-"
"I said get out! And never call me Alexander. Only Magnus gets to do that." He raised his voice and his hand started to shake as it reached down to his weapon belt.
Maryse flashed a cold glance at Magnus, but he simply smirked and shrugged. "You heard him. I think it would be best if you left my boyfriend and I alone. Unless you want to watch, but I will admit it gets pretty heated..."
"Magnus!" Alec cried, but failed to hide a slight smile and a giggle.
"Come on Maryse, we should go." Jace murmured, looking at Alec.
"Okay, okay. Fine." Maryse replied. She dropped her arms by her side and made to walk out of the room, but as she reached the door she flung herself at Magnus, pinning him against the wall by his throat.
"By the Angel..." Alec heard Jace say exasperatedly.
"If you ever, ever, hurt my son emotionally or physically I will kill you. And it won't be quick. I will make you suffer in pain for as long as I can. I might even make Alec watch-" she growled.
"Stop!" Alec choked, tears in his eyes. Maryse spun round, her eyes blazing. "You're hurting him." He whispered.
"Don't worry about me, sweetheart." Magnus spluttered, struggling for breath. "I'm doing just- fine."
"Mom. Please. Let him go, let us go." Alec said softly.
The fire in Maryse's eyes died down, and she released Magnus. He ran to Alec, wrapping his arm round his back and facing her, a new determination in his eyes.
"Fine. This time I'll leave for good." she said, defeated. She then turned to Magnus, her eyes wide and motherly. "Just promise me you won't break his heart. There is no rune to fix that."
"I promise, Mrs. Lightwood. I swear on my life no harm will ever come to him." Magnus replied politely but with an underlying tone of passion that only Alec could decipher.
"Please. Call me Maryse. Come on Jace, we must leave." Maryse said, swiftly leaving the room. Jace gave Magnus and Alec a quick nod before following. Soon after, Alec heard the door open and shut.
Magnus came and draped his arms round Alec from behind. "So, where were we?" he whispered into his neck.
Alec shifted, but didn't untangle himself from his boyfriend's grip. "Magnus, I really don't know if I'm in the mood anymore." he said.
"But we were having so much fun!" Magnus pouted. Alec tilted his head to look up at Magnus. His lips were slightly parted and the gold specks in his eyes were glistening more than they usually did.
Alec couldn't resist. He stood on his tiptoes and brought his lips to Magnus'. Magnus let go of him and spun him round to face him. Alec stumbled slightly, and put his hands on Magnus' chest to steady himself. Magnus smirked as Alec blushed, embarrassed.
"Kind of ruined the moment there, babe." Magnus sighed jokily.
"Babe?" Alec spluttered.
"Just trying it out, sugarpuff."
"Sugarpuff?" Alec asked, eyes wide.
"Too far?" Magnus implied, tilting his head.
"I think I prefer babe." Alec said, straight faced.
"Sugarpuff it is, then."
