It was very strange to Mara, being free that is. She had spent a majority of her life in the hands of others, but now she could control what she did. It was confusing and Mara wasn't sure she liked it. She found herself missing her handlers, the guiding if not violent hand they used to control her.
Although that relationship in particular was toxic on another level, so were her other relationships. The bond formed with Pietro and Wanda was forced and only built off the fact that they came from the same place. Don't eve net her started on Ultron, Mara was pretty sure he would end up killing them all. All in all, she didn't have very many healthy relationships, scratch that she had zero healthy relationships.
Maybe she could change that
