I had the perfect outfit – a loose white tank top with a dark blue cardigan to keep me warm during the February season. I was going to my favorite band’s – One Direction – album signing today at seven in the morning. I had a couple of their CDs and a poster with all five of the boys on it so they could sign their name on their picture; it was supposed to be a perfect day.
I was going to go stand in the long line outside of my favorite mall for around 5 hours, meet the boys for about 10 seconds, shop around the mall for a while, and then finally go home to take a nice long shower and go to bed. However, this, of course, didn’t go as planned.
My phone rang at five in the morning, a full hour before I was supposed to get up.
“Hello?” I mumbled blurry – eyed, not even bothering to look at the caller ID.
“Ava – hey it’s me,” Jessica said hurriedly. “I need a really big favor from you; you’re the only person I can call.”
“Sure, no problem; what is it?” I ask, more awake now that I noticed my best friend’s frantic tone.
“I have no one to watch Liam today, can you please, please watch him, I’ll owe you big time I promise,” she said, with Liam babbling his baby talk in the background.
I groan out loud, knowing I shouldn’t watch a one year old baby today, what with me standing in a line for five hours. However, Jessica was my best friend, and a 19 year old single mom.
“I guess I can but you know I’m going to that signing today Jess.”
“Ava, you’re eighteen, don’t you think you should give up on having a favorite band by now? You’ve been in love with them since you were sixteen!”
“Hey, do you want me to watch your kid or not?” I mumble, embarrassed on how Jess called me out on that.
It’s true though, I’ve had the biggest crush on all of the guys in One Direction, the British – Irish boy band that’s been taking the world by storm and gaining millions of fans for the past two years. My love for the boys – Louis, Liam, Niall, Harry and Zayn – have probably only increased since the time they left X Factor and became as popular as the Beatles had so many years ago.
“Yes! Thank you so much Ava, I owe you big time!”
“Yes you do,” I agree as we say our goodbyes and hang up.
Jessica would be here by 6:30 so I had quite enough time to get ready and leave the house in plenty of time to leave for the signing. Heck – I would probably be early! I was so happy that the day had finally come after three years of hoping and praying that One Direction would come even remotely close to my run – down town of Hollowbrooke in Virginia.
Now they’re going to the mall right down the street from where I live, John Hawkes Mall. When I read this on Twitter, I almost fainted and fangirled for about 20 minutes, making my neighbor actually call me to make sure I was alright and wasn’t being murdered. I had patiently waited the three months after that news was released and today was finally the day. I was finally going to meet my British – Irish heroes.
Even if Liam was going with me it would be okay because I can handle bringing one baby with me to the signing; maybe he would even get a reaction out of the boys with his cuteness. Liam had very light blue eyes and blonde – brown duck fluff layered all over his cute little head. He also had an adorable little button nose so much like Jessica’s it wasn’t even funny. Liam could be Jessica’s mini – me they looked so alike; they even shared the same birthday.
And it was even more impressive because even though Liam was named after his daddy – Jessica’s ex-fiancé who passed away while she was pregnant – Liam is also a name of one of the band members in One Direction; which is pretty ironic.
But then my dreaded phone rang again. This time I glanced at the caller ID and saw my step – mom’s name. I groaned loudly before I answered the phone.
“Hello?”
“Ava, it’s May.” No, really. I couldn’t tell from the caller ID.
“Hey May, what’s up?” I really don’t like May. She treats my dad like shit and is poisoning my half – sister with bad parenting, since she doesn’t let my dad get into discipline.
“I need you to watch Brooke today.”
“Ooo-kay… well I have stuff to do today May.” I was not going to get stuck with another child, one is enough for me.
“Well I need you to because no one else is available. I’ll pay you ten bucks. I’ll come get her around nine tonight, and drop her this morning at 6:45,” she snapped, sealing my fate. She must be really desperate for a sitter if she actually considered paying me.
“Fine, but I’m going to a signing in the mall today with Liam too,” I say, praying that May would reconsider if she knew I already had a baby with me.
“Well that’s even better for you then, Brooke’s eight, she can help you watch baby Liam!” May said cheerfully, hinting that she knew I was trying to guilt her in to keeping Brooke.
“Alright well I have to be at the signing by seven so please be here earlier than that,” I grumbled, frantically trying to plan how I was going to watch a one year old and still keep an eight year old in my sight while standing in line.
“I already said I was bringing her at 6:45, goodbye.”
I glance at the phone to make sure she hang up on me before saying “Bitch,” under my breath as I turned on my shower. It seems my much anticipated day will not be going as I planned.
End of chapter one! Tell me what you guys think in the comments please! xx
