“Whoa! Graduation!” I heard some scream in my ear and pat me on the back but I didn’t turn to look at them, I was too lost in thought.
“Hey, babe.” Layla said throwing her arms around me and kissing me on the lips. It was so like her to pretend like yesterday had never happened. But right now that was fine with me; I wasn’t in the mood to fight anymore. “You look hot in your cap and gown.”
“Thanks, Layla. So do you.” I smiled down at her.
“Hey guess what?” She asked with a mischievous smile on her face.
“What?”
“Schools out for summer.” She sang in a very not angelic voice “Schools out forever!”
“Shh.” I tried to make her stop but she didn’t, she continued to sing
“Schools out for summer! Schools out forever!” She sang louder this time and to silence her I pressed my lips hard against hers pulling her close.
When I pulled back she was light of breath “Okay, I’ll shut up.” She offered.
“Thank you.” I said taking her hand as we began to walk.
“So are we going to the party tonight?” She asked but I wasn’t totally listening because right then Mary walked in and our eyes met. She quickly looked away and hurried down the hall.
“Yeah.” I said “Hey, stay right here. I’ll be right back.”
“Wait, wha-”
“Stay.” I ordered and ran off in Mary’s direction.
She was fixing her cap in a mirror on the wall and jumped when I said her name “Mary.”
“You know my name?” She said so quietly I’m not even sure I was supposed to hear it.
“Yeah. We’ve been in school together since kindergarten”
“Would you be offended if I told you that I don’t know yours?” She whispered again looking at the ground.
My mouth dropped open. Who didn’t know my name? Everybody knows my name. “You’re joking right?” I asked.
Her eyes brown eyes quickly looked up from the floor and meet mine as she shook her head.
“I’m Branson. Star football player, riches family, dating Layla.” I motioned towards my girlfriend.
“Layla?” Mary asked.
“Yeah you know her, right?”
