My hearing with the judge had gone terrible, and now here I sat, in a jail sell and here I’d stay for the next six months. That wasn’t the worst part though, the worst part was Charlie.

Mary was right. I had no one left. Charlie had given up on me. He used to say “Someday I’m going to ask you to marry me and you’re going to be so in love you’ll forget all about Branson and say yes.” That was before he knew the truth, but I always knew the truth and I had believed him. I had believed that someday, after I had won of course, he would propose and I would forget about my game and he and I would get married and be happy. Maybe even have some kids. We would have the cutest kids.

“It’s visiting hour.” A guard said, opening my sell up and taking me by my arm. She led me into a large room with many tables, where they handcuffed me to mine, like everyone else. Then the bell ran, the doors opened, and in walked crying family’s, and beaming boyfriends.

I drummed my fingers on the table. I wasn’t expecting anyone. May family had already come to see me. But I’d take whatever chance I had to get out of that sell. So I was started when someone said my name “Layla.”

I looked up and laughed, it was Mary. Well, not just Mary. Branson, Bryan, Sam, Sophia, Kate, Aaron, and even Charlie had come too, but she was the one who had spoken. “What do you want?” I asked, my eyes landing on her somewhat large stomach.  Ha, I thought, bitch is getting fat.

“Wow, it seems like we’ve had this conversation before, but the rolls were reversed.” She said taking a seat across from me.

“I asked you what you wanted.” I said starring at the ground.

“I just wanted to ask you something.”

“What?” I said, breaking my eyes from Mary and letting them trace over the faces behind her. First Branson, who had his hand on her shoulder. Second Bryan, she was playing innocently with Mary’s hair. Third Sam, he was staring at Bryan. Wait…are they like together? Gross. Fourth Sophia, she looked uncomfortable and wouldn’t meet my eyes. Fifth Kate, she wouldn’t look at me either. Sixth Aaron, he was looking straight at me, trying his hardest not to laugh. His eyes kept traveling over my bright orange jump suit. And last Charlie, he looked like he was going to cry. I couldn’t look at him any longer.

“What?” I repeated.

“Have you heard the good news?” She asked.

“You tried to kill yourself? In my book that’s only considered good news if you succeed.” I mumbled.

Branson let out a low growl from the back of his throat, like he was going hit me. I laughed “Oh, please Branson. Calm down, won’t you? Somehow I’m in jail and I’m still winning.” I laughed.

“I’m pregnant.” Mary said.

I stopped laughing “What?”

She smiled “I’m pregnant. I’m with the guy I love. See all these people behind me? They’re my friends. I’m going to live a full life, with my Branson, my baby, and all my friends. You pushed every one away because your power crazy.” She let out a little laugh “Power crazy.” She repeated herself. “My point being you played the game well but you cheated and now in the end…you’re alone and you lost.”

She was getting everything, everything I wanted, everything I worked for. She was getting everything.

My fist flew out in front of me and collided with her face. She fell backwards and Branson caught her. Soon two police were at my side, restraining me.

“Mary.” Branson said “Are you okay?”

“Does it hurt?” Charlie asked, that stung the most.

She stood up smiling again, still holding he face “Yeah, but it was worth it. I told you I’d win. Somehow, some way.”

Branson took her hand and she turned and waked away, everyone fallowed. She did win…and I lost.
