It was getting late, yet Edd was still awake.
The Brit was sitting on the couch, watching the television with a can of cola in his hand and his cat Ringo by his side. It was a quiet night, like every other night on Durdam Lane. It was quite boring, really, but it was the only place Edd could stay at.
Before, Edd did have a roommate; Tord was his name. But Tord moved away for wanting to make it big in the city. Now he was alone.
Edd, at the time, wanted new roommates, but it was impossible to find new ones, so he would just stay alone, with his cat and his stash of cola.
Then, surprisingly, there was a faint knock on his door. It was pretty quiet, and Edd barely heard it over his TV. Edd groaned, and paused the program. The rest of the Professor Why episode would have to wait. It was probably another damn shoe salesman. But why would a shoe salesman come to the door this late at night?
Edd walked over to his front door and opened it, an eyebrow raised. What was there surprised Edd.
There were two men standing there. One was a tall, ginger man with freckles splattered across his deathly pale skin. He had completely red eyes, and he was wearing a red sweater and black pants. He also had some pretty freaky teeth; they were very pointy. The other was a shorter man with black eyes. He had striped horns and purple spots and splatters on his face. His hands were purple, and they were like claws. He had fangs like the other man, and he had the same outfit as the other man.
"Uh... hey." Edd said, confused.
"Hello!" the ginger said, kind of loudly. "We were wondering if we could have a place to stay for the rest of the night!"
"It's a long story, but we had to escape from a very bad home," the other explained. "We happened to see your lights on, so... yeah."
"I... okay, come in," Edd said, opened the door a bit more. "Come on in."
The two men walked in, and Edd shut the door. The only reason they allowed them to stay was because he was curious. He was curious as to why they looked so... freaky. So monster-like. He would kick them out in the morning; he just needed answers.
"You can take a seat on the couch," Edd told them. "Don't mind my cat. She's friendly."
Like Edd said, they sat down on the red couch.
"Do you guys need any... tea?"
"What's tea?" the ginger asked.
"Matt, shush," the other said. "Yeah, we'll take some tea."
Edd was getting more freaked out by the minute. He simply nodded and walked into the kitchen, and started preparing some tea.
How did the pale one not know what frickin' tea was? It was like they hadn't been exposed to society ever. As Edd prepared the tea, he listened to their conversation.
"Matt, this will only be temporary."
"But I like this guy! He's nicer than RL."
"I know, but it's only for the night."
"Tom..."
"Matt, we can't trust every stranger we pass by. We're leaving tomorrow and that's final."
From what Edd could tell, the ginger was Matt and the black-eyed one was Tom. Edd was curious about what Matt said. Who was RL?
Edd finished up the tea and poured it into two cups. He didn't have any actual fancy teacups, so the two cups from his kitchen would have to do. Edd set the tea bags in the cups and went back into the living room.
"Here you go." Edd said, and handed them each a cup.
"Thank you!" Matt exclaimed, and then looked at the tea bag. "What's that?"
"What's what?" Edd sat down in the recliner.
"The bag."
"That's... the tea bag," Edd said. "Don't eat it."
Matt shrugged. Edd stayed quiet for a moment, before speaking again.
"Where did you guys come from?" he asked.
Tom looked at Edd.
"We... can't really say."
"Why not?"
"If we tell you, you might get killed."
Edd raised his eyebrows. That was surprising.
"Uh... okay... then who's RL?"
Matt nearly spit out his tea when he heard that.
"How do you know about RL?" Matt asked.
"I overheard you guys," Edd admitted. "I know that you guys are Matt and Tom, and I know that you guys have to leave tomorrow, too."
Matt gave Tom an anxious look.
"Look, I'm just curious," Edd said. "I want to know about the two guys staying in my house. So can I please have some answers?"
After a moment of silence, Tom looked back at Edd.
"We're experiments, I guess you could say," Tom answered. "We were two monsters found by a horrible man we call RL. He trapped us, erased all of our memories, and we were stuck there, possibly forever.
"He used us. He tested us. He wanted to find out everything we could possibly do. And you know what? He did. He knows what we're capable of, and he knows how to fight against it. It's terrifying. I hate it.
"But, lucky us, we escaped. We escaped the army base he trapped us in. It may of taken us many hours, and we may of had to knock down doors, disable security cameras, and sneak past guards, but we did it. And now we're here."
Tom took a sip of his tea.
"We'll probably leave tomorrow," Tom said. "You probably don't want us to be here longer than one night."
"No, no," Edd replied. "It's okay. You can stay."
"Seriously?" Matt responded, his red eyes sparkling.
Edd smiled. "Yeah."
"Yes!" Matt squealed.
"Heh... it's pretty late," Edd exclaimed. "You two probably should get some rest."
"I don't really need sleep. I'm a vampire," Matt said. "But it still feels good."
"Sleep does sound good," Tom stated. "Where can we sleep?"
"There's two rooms upstairs," Edd told him. "The two doors to the left would be good for you two."
Tom nodded, and stood up. He carefully set his empty cup of tea on the coffee table. Edd was surprised Tom didn't drop it, considering the fact that Tom had huge purple hands. Matt did the same as Tom.
Tom looked back at Edd one last time.
"Thank you, sir."
"Just call me Edd."
"Okay then," Tom said. "Thank you, Edd."
Edd smiled. "No problem."
Edd wasn't sure how this would turn out, but he had a feeling that it was going to be okay.
