Amber
It was the next day, which was the beginning of my and Shanti's days off. I guess it would be relaxing, but I like to be up and moving. I've been that way since I could start doing things on my own to keep my mind off of the fact I'm not like others. I always feel like I can't fit in anywhere, despite the fact no one knows I am the way I am unless I slip up, which happened yesterday with the strange lady, Mary.
I was currently in my kitchen putting a meal together for Shanti and I since she slept over last night. I left her share in the microwave and took mine with me to the little nook I had with a bay window. I liked sitting there while I ate and watching people go about their lives. Our small little town was nice, everyone was, only I felt like the odd one. "Amber?"
"I'm here," I said loud enough for her. She came down the short hallway while rubbing her eyes. "I put your food in the microwave."
"Thank you, Amber." I nodded and she went into the kitchen. Once she retrieved the plate of food I left for her, she came over to where I was and I moved to make room for her. "Why are you up so early?" She asked before taking a bite.
"I couldn't sleep in."
"See? That's how I know that you work too much." She started, and I could feel the oncoming lecture.
"Well, I'm providing for myself, Shanti, I need to work a lot to afford to live here."
"If only my parents let me, I'd move here with you and help pay." She said though I think it was more to herself.
"It's alright, I've been doing fine," I say to try and reassure her.
"Uh, you barely had food here last time I came over."
"Yeah, but I have enough now."
"Because I bought it for you."
"Thank you..?"
"Geez, Amber, I only pray that you'll ask for help from time to time. You're not alone, you have me, too."
"Shanti's all mushy today." I said, interrupting the 'serious' mood that was building up.
"Well, we've been like sisters since day one. I need to take care of you."
"I think it should be the other way around since I'm older."
"Well, with how everything is right now, that's not working out."
"You're a great younger sister to me," I told her in order to make her feel better.
"I'm your only little sister." She said while pouting.
"Aww, c'mere." She moved to sit so she'd be in my arms and I held her. "You're the only friend I've got, Amber, I can't lose you."
"You won't, I promise you, Shanti." I caressed her head as she snuggled more in my arms.
After our short cuddle session we both decided to head out for the day, and by 'both' I mean Shanti dragging me out against my will. We went over to the city since we haven't been there in such a long time, and went into some of the small shops. We walked into a vintage shop and looked around at all the stuff they had. "Hey Amber, this would look cute in your place." She said motioning to an industrial-looking dresser.
"It would go perfect in your living room." She continued to add on.
"You're right it would fit with how my apartment looks."
"Maybe we should come back and get it with my dad's truck." She suggested.
"Ah, maybe I don't know."
"Just think about it." I nodded at her and we both continued to look around. We both continued to walk around and go into other shops we found interesting.
While we were walking around I stopped, all of a sudden, because I felt a bit dizzy. "Amber, are you alright?" I heard Shanti, but she sounded a bit far away. I closed my eyes and I felt a hand tug me in a direction. "Take a seat here, Amber." I heard Shanti say. I cautiously sat down and tried to regain some balance. As I opened my eyes it's like they weren't mine I was looking through. I was so lost, and dare I say it I also felt scared. I didn't know how to handle these situations and having Shanti try to help me only stressed me out further because I didn't want to burden her with my problems. "S-Shanti.." I said, only it sounded like my voice was trembling. "Amber? Oh my god, what's wrong? Why are you crying? Are you hurting?" I furrowed my brows once she mentioned I was crying. I lifted my hand up and wiped at my face to feel tears coming down. "I-I'm going to call my g-grandma, maybe she might know w-what's wrong." I could only nod as everything around me started to feel weird. I faintly heard her talking on the phone frantically as she was firing questions at her grandma about what she should do, and if her grandma herself has ever had this happen. "Amber, my grandma wants to try to speak to you," Shanti said, hesitantly. I nodded and reached for the phone, I placed it to my ear and tried to listen to what her grandma had to say. "Amber, sweetie, are you on?"
"Y-yes."
"Ok, I need you to tell me on a scale of 1-10 how you feel, 10 being the worse."
"N-nine."
"Alright, I need you to take some deep breaths, everything will be alright, hun."
"W-what's happening to m-me?" I asked, a whimper escaping my lips.
"Once you've calmed down a little more I'll tell you." I listened to her early instructions and started taking deep breaths. I guess it only made sense to do so since I was slightly panicking. After a good five minutes, I started to feel myself calm down. "Are you okay now, hun?"
"Yeah, a little better. I'm still shaken up though," I explained to her.
"That's great, whenever you feel like this again just try to remain calm."
"Alright."
"Amber, how was this compared to the other experiences you've had?" She asked.
"It felt a lot stronger than the other ones. The other ones I've had gave off numb and dull feelings." I heard her hum in response to what I had to say as if she understood what I was going through, and she probably could have since she has actually been through what I'm going through now. After I felt my mind clear up one question remained in my mind. "Um, you said you'd tell me what was wrong after I calmed down, so what is it?" Light laughter was heard from the other line and I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, Shanti who was crouched by my side looked up to me as if asking 'what's going on?'
"Amber."
"Yes?"
"This means that your soulmate is closer to you now."
