So two weeks back to school nothing really had changed, Meghan Reeds shorts were still on their way to the moon, French class and Tuesday lunch still sucked and Jackson Dean's head was still a phenomenon! On the bright side I was now famous and not in a good way, kids still avoided me and occasionally pointed at me when I walked by. Sweet.
"Des! Hey Des..." Skye ran towards me at as I was walking down the hall. I noticed that she had ditched her crew who were eyeing daggers at me.
"Hi Skye. What's up?"
"Nothing much, how's your second day back to school?" she casually asked as she walked with me.
"Grand! Haven't you noticed, I'm famous now."
"It's hard not to, you've got paparazzi following you everywhere." We laughed.
"Skye, you do know I won't tell anybody about you and...So you can stop being nice to me now." She suddenly stopped and looked me straight in the eye, I think she was a bit offended. "Or not. You can do whatever you want just don't look at me like that ever again, it's scary." I added.
"You know Des, you are a very weird girl..." Tell me something new. "Weird in an interesting-probably-dangerous kind of way. I like it." Wow, I don't really feed on compliments but that felt really nice. "Have you heard from Henry yet?" that question brought me back to another hurtful reality.
"No. Ever since he woke up not remembering me I kind of let that ship sail. I mean I know that he is out of the hospital now, alive and well so I guess that's enough, right?"
"No, it's not enough."
"Hey, whose side are you on?"
"I'm on your side weirdo. Something tells me you have never had boy problems before so thank heavens you've got me to help you through this. I'm an expert! – Well, some people would prefer the term whore." She added jokingly.
"One, you are not a whore,—a spoiled little brat who has had her fair share of dicks—yes, but not a whore." Skye laughed. "Two, Henry Simmons is not a boy problem because he's no longer the ghost in my life, literally and three, I have had boys in my life before!"
"Right." She laughed again. We both knew I was lying. "Anyways, I've got drama club now so I guess I'll see you around."
"I've got shrink club now so yeah." I started walking away.
"Hey Des, maybe we could hang out later." Skye's voice caught people's attention in the hallway but she did not seem bothered.
"Uhm...okay."
"Cool. Your house 7:30. I'll bring the pizza."
"Cool." I smiled as she walked away. She was definitely not what I expected.
Going back to two days after I got back from Lake Hills, I opened up to my family on Henry Simmons and why I had run off to that town. You can imagine how that went. They all thought I had lost it, my mom was giving me that dick on forehead look again. My dad, well my dad was trying hard not to laugh. Color me shocked. This was up until I told them about grandma's necklace and that it was the one that helped me see Henry's ghost in the first place. They went quiet and exchanged looks. "What?" I asked impatiently, they took their time and I squirmed on my sit.
"Sweetheart," my mom never calls me that unless she's trying to apologize to me for something she couldn't give me or for something she had wrongfully accused me of. "We never thought this was really necessary that is why we never said anything to you. Your grandmother was...she had some mental issues."
"Yer think? She called me Abdul and said a lot of other crazy shit." That's when something clicked in my head. Grandma wasn't crazy. Grandma was me....or I was her...or we just had issues being that the necklace was the common thing between us.
