It had all started one night, one lonely night under the bright stars, the deep blue sky mixed with bright purples, the leaves coating the ground crunched under pressure, hidden by the thickets of dying grass. This was all topped off by the smell of leftover chicken, which lead outside into the grassy field from the rustic wooden house, the only thing there aside from the trees that created a forest.
A small brunette poked his head out of the window. He was no older than seven, obvious by the bright colors and goofy designs on his shirt. The child's figure and actions were visible outside from the light in the room. He grabbed a rope, which was already tied to something in the room, and threw it out of the open window running back to the other side of the pale blue-walled room, flicking the light switch off. He sprinted back towards the window, preparing to climb out of it. Carefully swinging a leg out of the window Matthew began the descent down the rope, slowly climbing down inch by inch.
The rope swung as Matthew let go of it, his feet quietly hitting the ground, and Matthew moved with it, crouching and placing his left hand on the ground to absorb more of the impact, though the movement was natural. He took a long look around the field, only illuminated by the full moon and stars that glittered in the sky. A grin spread on the boy's face, and he quickly ran through the field, causing leaves to crunch under his feet. Despite his pace, the log still took several minutes. A wide grin spread across his face as he ran towards the vertical fields of stars in front of him. After a while he found the path leading towards the next town over. He quickly ran down the path, kicking up the dirt as he did so, until he reached a fallen log, laying just to the side of the cliffside, near the edge, but enough for it to be hard to trip. The little boy placed a hand on the log, leaping over the trunk in one swift movement. He then sat down, simply looking at the stars, as if trying to memorize each of their positions.
He seemed mesmerized by the shades of the night, the way the moon illuminated everything in the same fashion the sun did, but without the warm light shining on your back, lighting up your eyes and making your hair glow, making you seem prettier. Matthew liked how night could change from romantic to mysterious simply because of the clouds, nevermind rain, thunderstorms, wind or snow.
Eventually enough time passed and Matthew got up, being sure to do this again next Friday. He started back down the path, a satisfied smile on his face. Aside from the challenging climb back up his bedsheet ladder, the little brunette had a good night.
(I put the inspiration up top, but it'll only be on this chapter. If you ever have questions, feel free to ask, I'll try to answer if it means that there are no spoilers.)
