TAYLOR'S POV:
Landon loosens his grip on my arm and instead of ultimately letting me go, pulls me into a hug.
"I missed you... Did you know that?" he mumbles into my hair.
"Landon.."
"Where have you been, Tay?" I cringe at the nickname. He use to love calling me that, but I hated it. Not wanting to hurt his feelings, I never told him. My face is still pressed to his chest. I squirm a bit and finally he releases me from his grasp.
"Relapse." I mumble and move from his reach, walking back to the stage.
I take a look over my shoulder at Landon. His eyes are darkened, shoulders slumped, making his tall figure seem mimiscule. Without looking anymore, I finally get to the stage entrance where Jacob waits, his face lighting up when I come into view.
"Hey, ready to get back in there?" he hands me my beer and we meet back up with Matt and Debby. The bass is blaring, and the singer onstage is getting ready to crowdsurf. Everyone cheers, the sound filling my ears and blocking out everything else. The singer is tossed back to the stage and the noise dies down to its normal level, allowing our ears to have a break. A slower song begins to play, and I feel Jacob's arms wrap around my waist. We face each other, studying one another's face. His dark eyes flicker from my eyes to my lips and we both lean in, our lips less than a few inches apart. Closer.
And then, Rhett happens. Rhett is the only thing I think of at the moment and the guilt overcomes me. I suddnely feel nauseous. He was the one who yes, got me into the nuthouse, but also got me to meet Jacob. He saved me, and I was too busy wallowing in my own self-pity to notice. I had been ignoring this feeling for as long as possible, but soon it all bubbled to the surface faster than I thought it would, almost like I've been shaking a soda can and openeing it, only to be surprised that it actually burst into an explosion of carbonated water and sugar. My whole life I had been shaking the can, and I was always upset when it backfired. My forehead dips down and breaks the incoming contact, surprising Jacob.
"Taylor?" He cups my face and hunches over to look me in the eye. We stand still, despite the moving crowd of people surrounding us. A buff guy bumps into me as he sways side to side in time to the music. I stumble, Jacob catching me by the waist.
