My Mom and the Werewolf

I've never felt so uncomfortable in all my life. Benedict was so flirty with my mom as she cooked up some dinner for us. The worst part, she was being flirty back! I can't believe I was just feeling sorry for her trying to move on from my dad. She obviously didn't mind flirting with a complete stranger.

"So how do you and El know each other?" she asked with a wide grin

I went to make something up in response but he beat me to it.

"El asked me for some help with her summer homework, I was a sub last year" he lies, so smoothly, too smoothly. I didn't trust him watching him like this, his personality was too much like the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood. I shutter at the thought and continue to watch them.

Just when I think I can't take it anymore someone rings the doorbell. "I'll get it!" I say quickly and rush off, wanting to get out of that kitchen. I open the door to Gavin

"Hey-" he starts and I pull him in

"You'll never guess what is in my kitchen right now" I say in a lowered voice.

"Uh... food?" he takes a deep breath through his nose.

"No!" I whisper, upset, "a werewolf!"

Gavin stares at me "I'm sorry, what now?"

"Not a very good werewolf, doesn't have teeth or claws, but I saw him change right in front of me! He attacked me!" I whisper quickly

"Are you okay? El, you know werewolves don't actually exist? Were you actually attacked?" Gavin furrows his eyebrows worriedly.

"Yes I was attacked! By the werewolf in my kitchen! And now he's flirting with my mom!"

"You let your attacker into the house?!" He brushes past me quickly

"Gav-" I try to catch him

"Hello Gavin" my mom smiles "have you met Benedict too?"

I look at Benedict as he waves, sitting at the table, scratching behind Benny's ears.

"Can't say that I have" Gavin frowns and looks at Benedict for a moment. Benedict flashes a smile at him and I see Gavin's shoulders relax "I'm Gavin" he outstretches his hand

I watch in disbelief and look at Benedict who winks at me. They shake hands and Gavin takes a seat. I frown and grab Benny from Benedict and sit down at the table, wishing I hadn't brought him home.

The three of them engage in what I'm sure is an intriguing conversation, but all I can focus on is the fact he's a werewolf and no one will believe me. I watch my mom blush as he compliments her cooking. I look at my phone as it starts to ring, an unknown number. I stand up with Benny in my arm and answer my phone as I walk into the other room.

"Hello there, is this the pop girl?" I hear a familiar Hungarian accent over the phone and can't help but smile that he actually called me.

"This is she, my name's Ella" I giggle

"Ah yes, Ella. How are you? Less sticky I hope?"

"Yeah, sorry about that again" I giggle and sit on the couch.

We talk for a long while, forgetting about the whole Benedict ordeal. After about a half hour I hear their laughter from the kitchen and the scenario replays in my head.

"You still there Ella?" Ambrus asks

"Sorry.. Yeah... can I ask you a question?" I bite my lip.

"Sure"

"Do you believe in monsters?" I ask carefully

There's silence on the phone for a minute

"Ambrus?" I chew on my lip

"Like what?" he finally says.

"Like.. ghosts, ghouls, zombies, vampires.... or werewolves?" I purse my lips and look at the ceiling.

"I hate werewolves.."

"Me too.." I glance at the kitchen "but do you believe they're real?"

Silence again.

"I'm sorry, I must sound insane-"

"Yeah I do" he cuts my apology off "why?"

"I uh... I think I just let one into my house" I bite my lip

"A werewolf?" He asks, surprisingly calm.

"Yes... that probably sounds crazy..."

"Not really.. but you should probably get him out" he says, still calm.

"Why are you not freaking out and hanging up right now?" I furrow my eyebrows.

"You asked if I believed, yeah I do, I know they're real" he says without hesitation

"What?" I bite my lip

"I'm one of them"

"You're a.. a werewolf?!" I gasp a bit

"No.. vampire"
