Gavin is the most normal of the four of us. We often wonder why he even chose us for friends, however we love him to death.
Gavin moved from Scotland in the 8th grade and we were the first people he met at school. Luckily we got to him before the jocks. He was build like a jock but took his schooling very seriously.
His athletic build, dark Auburn hair, emerald eyes, charm, gentlemanliness, intelligence, and kindheartedness made him a catch for any girl, his Scottish accent was a plus too. Both Anne and I had a crush on him for about a year which made it even more weird when he and Michael checked out girls. I admit his smile and the way his nose scrunches up when he gets upset with himself for using Scottish terms we don't understand, still give me butterflies. However, I've learned to be just a friend to him. As for Anne, she was over him after that year and rolls her eyes at me when I mention how cute he is.
Aside from in my eyes, he's not perfect, Gavin does have some personal problems that he usually doesn't like to talk about. His parents are super strict and hard on him when it comes to his grades, friends, and extracurricular activities. The only one of us they approve of is Michael because he's a guy, and it's not proper to have lady friends. They don't know about Michael being bi, if they did, chances are they wouldn't approve. According to them, I'm apparently a "delinquent" with my pink hair and Anne the "homely girl" because she prefers a natural look.
I think one of the reasons Gavin continues to hang out with us is because it's one thing he feels comfortable rebelling against. He feels free around us and has fun, we're his escape from the perfect life his parents want him to lead. They've already got his college picked out and the only reason they haven't sent him to boarding school is because Gavin has intercepted all the response letters.
We get together and burn them once a month when it's not freezing cold outside. It's always a good time, Gavin and Anne sneak out to join us and we spend the night laughing and storytelling.
They all tell scary stories, I tend to go the more fantastical route. I hate it when they try to scare me, I scare easily too. I don't know how I got stuck with three friends who love anything and everything scary. They've been on me for a long time to write a scary story, but I continue to refuse.
I snap out of my thoughts when Gavin calls out to me.
