Chapter 4

My apartment is a couple blocks from the school. It’s actually a really nice neighborhood but it’s not huge. I parked my car and walked over to check my mail. I glanced over to a group of boys and noticed their gazes on me. With that I stepped it up; I walked gracefully swinging my hips in a way that they couldn’t resist. I did an over the shoulder look at them and quickly added a wink along with a seductive smile. I could practically see them melting in my hands like putty. All I needed was that to boost my confidence, all previous anxious and confused feelings over Alex and Brandon were gone. I stepped up my stairs taking a couple at a time until my door was at sight. I fumbled with my keys trying to find the proper one. After a little while of mingling with the lock, my door swung open and welcomed me with a rush of cool air. Without hesitation I stepped into my savior’s arms and away from the blazing sun. I dropped my keys on the kitchen counter and made my way to my bedroom. I slipped out of my sundress. The fabric that was once hugging my curves now felt like it was suffocating my body. I put on some shorts and a long t-shirt and walked to the kitchen and popped some ramen into the microwave. Hey, I’m a college student, what can I say? I jumped onto the couch turning on the new episode of the secret life of an American teenager.

*BEEP BEEP BEEP*

That was my queue to get my meal. I swooped it out of the microwave and grabbed a cold dr. pepper out of the refrigerator. The next couple hours were spent watching episodes that I had missed out on.

“Amy quit being a selfish baby!” I yelled at the TV. Yeah I get into shows when I’m home alone. I checked my phone for any important messages but was sidetracked when I noticed the time. How did it get so late so quick? As soon as I stood up black dots dotted my vision and my legs began to sway. My legs locked up and I reached for the arm of the couch to steady myself. As soon as the dots disappeared from my vision I disappeared to my bathroom. I stripped out of my clothes and stepped into the warm water. The warmth immediately wrapped me in its arms and relaxed my muscles.

My bed screamed my name as I neared it. I sunk into the soft comforter set that resembled a cloud on hectic days like these. Expectations for my pillow to envelope me in sleep arose but fell shortly after when it didn’t happen. I squeezed my eyes shut but darkness didn’t welcome me, a pair of dark brown eyes did. The same hypnotizing one that captivated me earlier. I opened my eyes trying to shake off the feelings coursing through me; as soon as they left new one rushed to replace them. Thoughts of his smile made my heart feel heavy. I sat up leaving my pillow and thoughts behind. I hate feeling vulnerable like this; it brings back the pain of the past. I reached over for my phone almost dropping it in the process. My fingers dialed Andrews’s number. After three rings he picked up.

“Hello?” His voice took over my mind causing a sense of calm to wash over me.

“Hey baby!” I tried to contain my grin but failed.

“What’s wrong? Is everything alright?” His voice was dripping with evidence of sleep making it sound husky and sexy

“No I just wanted to talk to my love. Is that such a surprise?”

“Um actually yeah,” he laughed.

“I just miss you that’s all,” I said trying not to let my voice crack.

“I know it’s been too long.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too. I’ll tell you what, you have Friday off right?”

“Yeah it’s a holiday.”

“I’m gana come down to see you, is that okay?”

“That’s perfect!” I shrieked.

“I’ll stay the weekend. And you can get me from the airport on Friday. Ill text you the times sometime this week. Okay baby?”

“Can’t wait.” This boy knew exactly how to turn my moods around. If I need anything I can count on him.

“Me either. Just keep your head up and don’t let anything keep your beautiful smile from shinning. I mean this Mikayla I don’t need to see another rerun of the Chris incident.” My breath caught in my throat at the sound of his name. Memories flooded my mind. Not now. Be strong Mikayla.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bring that asshole up,” Andrew apologized.

“I’m over it,” I lied. The truth is far from that. I’m definitely not over it, him yes, but not it.

“As soon as I get the chance, I will be with you. I WILL make you happy. And I WILL heal you. I promise.”

“That’s what I’m waiting for,” I said picturing my life with him.

“Well I’ve got to get some sleep, Are you going to be okay?”

I laughed, “Yes I’ll be fine. Sweet dreams babe.”

“As long as you’re in them,” He joked.

“See you soon,” I smiled to myself.

“Not soon enough.” The line went dead. Andrew was everything I needed and right now that was comfort. I laid my head on my pillow and closed my eyes, this time, sleep welcomed me.
