“I’m sorry, Lily… I think it’s best if we’re not friends anymore.” “I think it’s best if we don’t date.” “I think it’s best if we don’t hang with us anymore.” “I think it’s for the best.”

“I think its best if you just go kill yourself, Lily!!”

I’ve heard all of those things today. Most of them happened within a span of a minute. The rest followed soon after. The minute I walked into homeroom this morning to drop my stuff off at my usual table, I knew something was up. All of my friends got really quiet and exchanged pointed looks… Now that I think about it, the moment I walked in, everybody stopped talking to stare at me…

“Is something wrong?” I had asked…

“I’m sorry Lily… I think it’s best if we aren’t friends anymore…” One of them said. I think it was Lizzie… Lily and Lizzie, the dynamic duo. We had been friends since kindergarten…

“Why?!” I demanded. I had done nothing wrong!! Just yesterday Lizzie and I had gotten manicures at the mall together and laughed at the stupid things our little siblings did… She was fine then!!

“It’s for the best! I promise.” She said, patting my hand gently. Everybody around her smiled and nodded, murmuring their agreement.

“Fine!” I yelled, picking up my backpack angrily. I took a few steps before glancing over my shoulder, sending them sad, pleading looks… They just ignored me. I stalked off. Sitting at a table by myself, I folded my arms on the desk, put my head down, and started to cry. I was so confused. How can somebody go from best friends to practically nothing over night?!

“Lily?” I heard someone ask. I didn’t respond. It was probably just somebody coming over to make sure that I knew that we weren’t friends anymore… I think I got the message loud and clear. I felt a hand on my shoulder. “Lily! It’s me!! Lily!!!”

“What?!” I yelled, sitting up and wiping my eyes gently, so I didn’t mess my make-up up any more than it already was.

Matthew Jones was sitting beside me, eyes wide from my yelling, a kind look on his face. I sighed and put my head back down.

“Calm down, it’s only your boyfriend…” I muttered to myself, refusing to look back up and let everybody see my tear stained face.

“Yeah, uhm… About that…” Matt trailed off, sounding extremely guilty. I sat up. “I think it’s best if we don’t date anymore…”

“What?!” I yelled again, causing him to wince. “Matt, you can’t abandon me too!! What the fudge did I do?!?!” I was furious. Furious with Matt, with all of my friends, with myself… Obviously it was something I did… Nobody just abandons their friend randomly and out of the blue.

“Nothing, it’s not you…” Oh here comes that over-used break up line… “It’s just… We can’t see each other anymore… I think it’s best if we don’t hang out as much… Or talk really… “He muttered, looking around nervously, refusing to meet my eyes.

                “Matt please… I love you!!” I whisper-yelled at him. Then I realized something… “It’s because I won’t put out for you isn’t it?!”

“No!! Lils, I’m not like that and you know it!!” He said quickly before taking a deep breath. “Lily Elizabeth Brookes, I love you with all my heart but… I think-“

“Doesn’t anybody care what I think?!” I screeched, causing everybody around me to stop talking again. “I personally think that everything should stay the same!!!!!”

“I think you should go kill yourself, Lily!” I heard Kaylee Montgomery should from across the room. God I hated her…

“Shut UP, Kaylee!! I’ve had ENOUGH of your bull shit!!” I screamed at the pug-faced girl, jumping up from my seat, making it fly half way across the room.

“You know what, bitch, I don’t think I will!” She sneered, “Nobody likes you!! There’s no reason for you to live anymore!”

“I have my entire fucking family to think about you ugly ass WHORE!” I yelled as teachers came streaming through the door, alarmed looks on their faces. Not a single person was making a sound.

“I highly doubt that… I bet your own sister hates your guts!!” Somehow, she was still sitting in her seat, calm as can be. “So why don’t you go shoot your own smart-ass brains out?!”

The comment about Sarah set me over the edge. I lunged at her, screaming profanities and clawing at the air.

“Lily, NO!” I heard Matt yell as he grabbed my arm, holding me back. “She’s not worth it!! You’ll get in serious trouble.”

I looked around the room. Everybody was staring at me, mouths open. Kaylee had this satisfied smirk on her face that ticked me off to no end. With one last sad look over my table of friends and Matt, I sped out of the room, running as fast as I could, before the teachers could fully understand what had just happened.
