And that was how my day started.
I didn’t understand… Even now, as I sit sobbing in the handicap stall in the bathroom, I still don’t understand… I’m so confused and I don’t even know why…
Wiping my eyes on a piece of toilet paper, I reached down to check my phone. I had one hundred and seventy-eight new messages. Ever since I stormed out of the classroom, my phone had been lighting up and buzzing about every two minutes or so… That was almost four hours ago. I guess I’d better read these…
With a sigh, I opened the oldest message on my phone. It was from Kaylee, the bitch.
You fukin bitch. Wht, did you thnk u was goin to fite me?! Ill kick ur ass, u slut!
A new wave of sobs washed over me. I had run out of tears around the two hour mark… The rest of the messages said things like, “Too bad your little boyfriend held you back” and “She’s right, nobody likes you.”
One from Matt: “Are you okay?? Where are you??”
Needless to say, his was the only one I replied to.
“I’m in the girls bathroom by the gym, last stall. Can you come here? Xoxo” The x’s and o’s I put as an automatic thing… They’re always there after a text to Matt.
Two minutes later, as I’m scrolling through the texts, most hate mail, some frantic pleas from Matt, my phone vibrates . It’s Matt again.
“On my way. There are some things I need to explain. xxx”
I smiled when I saw the kisses at the end. Maybe he hadn’t abandoned me after all… I hit the reply button and started to type.
“Hell yeah you have some explaining to do, mister!! xx”
I pulled my knees up to my chest and leaned my head against the wall. The tears found their way back. I could stay here forever… Away from the hate and the drama. Just get me an endless supply of Superman ice cream and caffeinated pop, and I’m good.
Sooner or later, I wasn’t really keeping track of time, I heard a knock on the door.
“Lily? Is that you?” I heard Matt say quietly, as if he was afraid, “Can I come in?”
“Go for it” I muttered, my voice cracking from not talking and crying.
“Uhm…” He hesitated, “It’s kinda… Sorta… Locked…”
I chuckled at my own stupidness and pulled myself up to open the door. I stumbled a bit on the way there. Four hours of nothing but sitting all scrunched up on a bathroom floor can screw up your legs a bit…
