Your first project will be a disaster. Count on it. The people who are brave (or stupid) enough to keep at it are the ones who succeed in this business.
Your first day of shooting will be a total train wreck. (See above.)
It gets better (sometimes).
When you're editing, you'll always find one more thing that can be better. Learn when to stop.
Keep working on improving. You're only as good as your last show.
To learn directing, editing and shooting, read books by people in the movie industry. Most of the books that talk about video are technical and artless.

Have fun. That's the only reason people do this stuff for a living. If you're successful, it beats working at a desk.
